SPARTANBURG, S.C. – After a stellar performance in the classroom last semester, 36 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) student-athletes have earned a spot on The Southern Conference (SoCon) Fall All-Academic Team, the conference announced Thursday.
As a department, UNCG maintained a record-breaking 3.43 grade-point average (GPA). Women's tennis led the way for female programs with a 3.82, while men's golf had a 3.61 for the semester. Fifteen of the Spartans' 17 programs had a 3.00 GPA or better for the fall semester.
In total, 427 student-athletes earned spots as each of the SoCon's 10 full-member institutions had at least 35 honorees, representing sports of men's and women's cross country, football, men's and women's soccer and volleyball.
To be eligible for the SoCon Academic All-Conference Team, student-athletes must carry at least a 3.3 cumulative grade-point average at the conclusion of the fall semester and were required to compete in at least one-half of their teams' competitions during the recently concluded campaign. In addition, the student-athletes must have successfully completed at least three semesters at their institutions, making true freshmen and first-year transfers ineligible for inclusion.
Fifty student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPAs. Samford paced the league with 14 student-athletes posting a 4.0 in the fall. UNCG had two student-athletes achieve a perfect GPA.
The 427 total selections are the second most in SoCon history while the 50 perfect GPAs are the most for a fall semester. The previous record of 37 was set back in the fall of 2021.
