GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 23 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team won its first Southern Conference (SoCon) game of the season against VMI, 2-0, Saturday at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Two early first half goals and a stubborn Spartan defense sealed the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match started off quick for the Spartans as in the sixth minute, a corner kick from Enzo Dovlo was put into the box for Sami Lachekar who knocked the ball into the back of the net to open the scoring at 1-0. UNCG maintained attacking pressure, keeping VMI on the back foot throughout the first half. In the 23rd minute, Trym Linberg drove past the VMI defense and crossed it to a waiting Pablo Torre on the back post who tapped the ball in to put UNCG up 2-0. The Keydets could only muster two shots, the Spartan press gave VMI no room to maintain possession, ending the score at 2-0 for the half.
In the second half, UNCG only took six shots with two being saved by the Keydets' goalkeeper. The VMI offense continued to flounder as the stiff UNCG defense did not allow a shot in the half. The game concluded in a 2-0 win with the Spartans second consecutive clean sheet and third of the season.
