Volleyball Begins SoCon Road Slate at Chattanooga & Western Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will begin The Southern Conference (SoCon) road slate this week by facing Chattanooga on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Maclellan Gym and Western Carolina on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. in Liston B. Ramsey Regional Activity Center.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG went 1-1 in the first week of SoCon action after falling to Furman, 3-1, on Thursday, Sept. 25, but earning a straight-set victory over Samford on Friday, Sept. 26, in Fleming Gym.
  • Friday's victory over the Bulldogs marked the second consecutive year the Spartans have defeated Samford in Greensboro.
  • It was the first time since 2021 UNCG claimed a straight-set victory over Samford.
  • The last time UNCG started off 1-1 in SoCon play was in 2022.
  • Gabby Seeds was the leading setter for the Spartans last week, notching 62 assists to average 8.86 assists per set in seven sets played.
  • Robin Rosser stood out for the Spartans, notching a .364 hitting percentage across seven sets played. Rosser posted 21 kills, two aces, 11 digs and 3.0 total blocks on the week.
  • Chloe Nussbaum paced the Spartans with 32 digs, averaging 4.57 digs per set in seven sets played.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans currently stand at 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the SoCon.
  • UNCG comes into week two of conference action in a three-way tie for fourth place in the SoCon standings with Chattanooga and Western Carolina.
  • UNCG stands out in top-50 nationally in three statistical categories: digs per set (27th/16.22), opponent hitting percentage (46th/.173) and digs (47th/827).
  • The squad is pacing the SoCon in digs per set (16.22) and total digs (827).
  • Allie Sweet is currently ranked in the top-25 nationally among six statistical categories: attacks per set (2nd/12.61), total attacks (7th/643), points (12th/257.5), total kills (15th/228), points per set (20th/5.05) and kills per set (21st/4.47).
  • Sweet is leading the SoCon in attacks per set (12.91), kills per set (4.47), points (257.5), points per set (5.05), total attacks (643) and total kills (228).
  • Nussbaum stands out nationally at 15th in digs per set (4.94) and 21st in total digs (252).
  • Nussbaum is pacing the league with 252 digs and a 4.94 digs per set average.
  • Seeds is second in the conference with a 9.58 assists per set average.
  • Seeds reached the 1,000-career assist milestone in the team's reverse sweep win over UNC Asheville on Sept. 20 in Greensboro.
  • Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for the second time this season and fourth time in her career on Sept. 25.
  • Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while Nussbaum earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week in the first round of SoCon weekly awards for the 2025 season on Sept. 1.
  • The 2025 squad features 10 returners and six newcomers. Out of the six newcomers, four are transfer students and two are freshmen.
  • UNCG was picked to finish the SoCon regular season in a tie for fifth place with Chattanooga.
  • Sweet was selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Sweet's preseason nod comes after being named SoCon Freshman of the Year, while also being voted to the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team last season.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
  • The Mocs come to Greensboro with a 7-7 overall record and 1-1 start in SoCon action.
  • Chattanooga opened up conference action with a 3-0 win at Mercer on Friday in Macon, Georgia, followed by a five-set loss at ETSU on Saturday in Johnson City, Tennessee.
  • Chattanooga ranks second in the SoCon in four statistical categories: digs (802), service aces (86), total attacks (1,860) and total blocks (125.0).
  • Sydney Jackwin leads the SoCon with 23 service aces.
  • Jackwin is second in the league with a 0.43 aces per set average, 209.0 total points and 551 total attacks. She paces the Mocs with 179 kills this season.
  • Kynli Kirkendoll ranks second in the SoCon with a .384 hitting percentage.
  • Ashley Reynolds is leading Chattanooga as the setter with 340 assists.
  • Kirkendoll and Caiti Barthel are leading the Mocs defensively with 55.0 total blocks and 219 digs, respectively.
  • Chattanooga was picked to finish tied for fifth with UNCG in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Kirkendoll was named to the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
SERIES HISTORY VS CHATTANOOGA
The Mocs lead in the overall series against the Spartans at 34-23. Chattanooga took both meetings with UNCG last season, 3-1.

SCOUTING WESTERN CAROLINA
  • The Catamounts come into the week with a 5-8 overall record and 1-1 mark in the conference.
  • Western Carolina opened conference play with a 3-0 win at The Citadel on Friday in Charleston, followed by a 3-0 loss at Wofford on Saturday in Spartanburg.
  • The Catamounts are currently leading the conference and are 31st nationally with a 36.78 attacks per set average.
  • Katie Boney is pacing the league as a setter with 459 total assists and a 9.98 assists per set average.
  • She leads the squad at the service line with 12 aces.
  • Boney has been named SoCon Setter of the Week on three different occasions this season.
  • Zoe Zudans is pacing the Catamounts on the outside with 143 kills.
  • Eda Yalcinkaya and Courtney Graham stand out defensively with 185 digs and 55.0 total blocks, respectively.
  • Western Carolina was picked to finish ninth in the SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • The Catamounts will face ETSU on Friday at 6:00 p.m. in Cullowhee, North Carolina, before welcoming UNCG on Saturday.
SERIES HISTORY VS WESTERN CAROLINA
Western Carolina paces the overall meetings with UNCG at 36-28. The Spartans and Catamounts split the regular season meetings last year. However, UNCG claimed a 3-0 win over Western Carolina in round one of the 2024 SoCon Tournament to advance to the SoCon Quarterfinals.
