2025 SoCon Women's Soccer Tournament Landing Page
GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team is set to begin postseason play by hosting VMI on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6:00 p.m. at UNCG Soccer Stadium.
The Spartans enter The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament as the seventh seed with their 3-11-3 overall record and 2-4-3 conference mark. The Keydets concluded the regular season 2-16-1 overall and 0-9-0 in the league, earning the final spot in the standings.

SERIES VS. VMI
The Spartans are leading the series 12-1 and UNCG is 7-0 at home and on a 10-game win streak against the Keydets.
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
UNCG concluded the regular season with a 2-1 loss to Samford. With the win the Bulldogs claimed the 2025 SoCon Regular Season Title.
Morgan Brubaker scored her first goal of the season and fourth of her career, while
Taylor Mentzer chipped in her third assist of the season for her seventh point of the year. Samford outshot UNCG, 16-10, and had the advantage in corner kicks, 8-3.
SPARTANS IN SOCON POSTSEASON
- UNCG has won eight SoCon Championships since joining the league in 1997, with the last title coming in 2018.
- In 2024, UNCG defeated No. 10 The Citadel at home, 3-0 before falling to No. 2 Samford in Birmingham, Alabama, 2-1, in a SoCon Quarterfinal game.
- The 2023 season was the last time UNCG played in a SoCon Championship game. Samford and UNCG tied, 0-0, but the Bulldogs claimed the title after taking the edge in penalty kicks, 6-5.
- UNCG and VMI last faced off in playoffs during the 2018 season. The Spartans earned a 3-2 victory in Greensboro.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- So far this season, Rina Ogimoto paces the team with 12 points (5G, 2A).
- Ryen Ortiz (3G, 1A) and Mentzer (2G, 3A) are second on the team with seven points.
- Ava Kiss is fourth with five points (2g, 2a).
- Emma Malone was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 7 for her efforts to give UNCG two shutouts with a 1-0 win over Furman and a 0-0 tie to Wofford.
- UNCG has four shutouts on the season.
- Opponents lead the Spartans in corner kicks, 74-63 while UNCG has the edge in saves, 72-64.
- The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in SoCon.
- The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points.
- Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
SCOUTING VMI
- VMI concluded the 2024 season 6-11-2 overall and 1-7-1 in SoCon play.
- The Keydets were voted to finish 10th in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- VMI most recently fell to ETSU, 3-0, in Tennessee, but picked up its second shutout of the season with a 2-0 victory over Gardner-Webb in Boiling Springs, North Carolina.
- Mackenzie Hobik is leading the team with six points (2G, 2A).
- Taliyah Headman and Madeline Karsonovich are tied for second with five points each (2G, 1A).
- Maren Ryberg has spent the most time in net, starting and playing in 18 games with a 3.14 goals-against average and 128 saves. Leslie Surita-Perez has started in one game and played in seven games.
- The Keydets have the advantage in saves against their opponents, 145-62, while VMI's foes have the edge in corner kicks, 143-36.
