Men’s Soccer Gears Up for Season Finale Against Mercer

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 23 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will take on The Southern Conference opponent Mercer in the regular season finale at UNCG Soccer Stadium on Saturday night. UNCG will honor 10 seniors prior to the match. 

Game 17: No. 23 UNC Greensboro (9-3-4, 2-2-0 SoCon) vs. Mercer (5-7-4, 3-0-1 SoCon)

SERIES HISTORY VS MERCER  
This matchup dates back to 2002, with UNCG holding a 13-7-4 edge in the series. The last matchup was in 2024, where the Spartans took a 1-1 draw. In the last five matchups against the Bears, UNCG is 2-1-2 with a neutral goal differential.  

WHAT'S AT STAKE   

  • UNCG is currently the fourth seed in the SoCon, in the event of an ETSU loss or draw to VMI, the Spartans can capture the third seed with a win over Mercer.  

  • Mercer would capture the Regular Season SoCon title and one seed with a win over UNCG and a Furman loss or draw to Wofford.   
       
    ABOUT THE SPARTANS        

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the six first-place votes and totaling 24 points.       

  • UNCG ranks 24th in RPI and 23rd in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.    

  • Head Coach Chris Rich is 4-2-3 all-time against Mercer in his career at UNCG.  

  • The Blue & Gold currently sit at fourth in the standings behind Mercer, Furman and ETSU, respectively. 

  • Enzo Dovlo was named to the Hermann Trophy Midseason Watch List, on Oct. 10, with nine goals and six assists this season. 

  • Dovlo also ranks first in the SoCon in total goals and total points.    

  • Arnaud Tattevin is second on the team in goals with six, while also having two assists on the season.       

  • Steven Hernandez is third on the team in total points with 10 (4G,2A).     

  • The trio of Dovlo, Tattevin and Hernandez have scored 19 out of the 33 goals this season.     

  • Julien Le Bourdoulous is the main playmaker on the team, he currently has two goals and four assists in the season.      

  • Longo is third on the team in assists this year with three.     

  • The Spartans boast 13 players that have scored points for the team this season.       

  • The Spartans boast one of the best offenses in the nation and are ranked 14th in total goals (33), 25th in scoring offense (2.06), 26th in total points (92), 35th in points per game (5.75) and 50th in total assists (26).  

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall and 3-1-1 in SoCon and a shared Regular Season Title with ETSU.      

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors.        

SCOUTING MERCER    

  • Mercer is currently ranked 164th in RPI and are 0-1-3 in Quad 1 and Quad 2 opponents this year.  

  • The Bears are coached by Brad Ruzzo who enters his 18th season with a 155-137-53 record. 

  • Mercer is led offensively by Junior Casillas who has six goals and four assists this season.  

  • Ehi Aimiuwu (4G,1A) and Fernando Artega (3G,3A) both tied for second in the team in points with nine.  

  • In between the posts for the Bears is Henry Hampshaw who has started all 16 games with a SoCon Defensive Player of the Week award on Sept. 9th.  

  • Mercer is 40th in the nation and second in the SoCon in total assists with 40 this season.

UP NEXT       
The Spartans and the rest of the SoCon teams will learn their fate in the 2025 SoCon Tournament following the conclusion of all regular season games on Sunday. 
 
The Tournament is set to begin on Nov. 7 with two Quarterfinal round games, with the highest seed hosting each contest. The semifinals will follow on Nov.9 and then the championship will be on Nov. 15. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be hosted by the first and second-seeded teams.
