Men’s Soccer Hosts No. 7 High Point and VMI

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 10 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team will host No. 7 High Point on Wednesday and The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe VMI on Saturday at UNCG Soccer Stadium. Both games are set for a 6:00 p.m. kickoff. 

Game 11: No. 10 UNC Greensboro (6-2-2, 0-1-0 SoCon) vs. No.7 High Point (7-0-3, 3-0-0 Big South)

SERIES HISTORY VS HIGH POINT 
This matchup dates back to 1971 in UNCG's inaugural season as a program. The Spartans hold a 19-13-2 record over the Panthers. UNCG is 1-4 in the last five games played between the two teams.  

SERIES HISTORY VS VMI
The Spartans hold an unblemished 23-0-0 against the Keydets, which is currently the longest active win streak against a team in UNCG men's soccer history. In the last five matchups played, the Spartans have boasted a 23-2 goal differential.  
 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS   

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall and 3-1-1 in SoCon and a shared Regular Season Title.  

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors heading into this season.   

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the six first-place votes and totaling 24 points.   

  • Enzo Dovlo was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for week one of the season with five goals and one assist after the first two games played.    

  • Dovlo is nationally ranked 10th in points (18) and 13th in the nation in goals (10), while also being 54th in assists with four.    

  • Arnaud Tattevin is second on the team in goals with five, while also having two assists on the season.   

  • Sami Lachekar was named SoCon Defensive Player of the Week for week two after clocking in 180 minutes of action with one goal in two games played.   

  • Steven Hernandez was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week for week three and week five. Hernandez is the first Spartan to have two Offensive Player of the Week awards in the same season since Dovlo in 2024.  

  • Hernandez is third on the team in total points with nine (4G,1A). 

  • Daniel Longo is third on the team in assists this year with three. 

  • The Spartans boast 12 players that have scored points for the team this season.   

  • UNCG has scored six out of its 24 total goals from set pieces.   

  • The Spartans boast one of the best offenses in the nation and are ranked 14th in scoring offense (2.40), 15th total goals (24), 23rd total points (68), 21st in points per game (6.80), 33rd shots on goal (6.30) and 37th in total assists (20). 

SCOUTING HIGH POINT 

  • High Point went 11-4-2 last year while going 6-1-0 in the Big South Conference, winning the regular season title before losing to No. 2 seeded Gardner-Webb in the conference championship game.  

  • Head Coach Zack Haines enters his sixth season at the helm going 65-29-15 in his time there.   

  • As of the most recent ranking, High Point is ranked seventh in the nation by the United Coaches Soccer Poll and sixth in RPI.  

  • Daniel Lugo leads the team in goals with seven and total points with 16, which ranks him first in the Big South in both categories. 

  • Celestin Blondel leads the team in assists with five this season, while also scoring one goal. 

  • The Panthers rank 14th nationally in scoring offense (2.80) and are tied for 17th in points per game (7.00). 

  • High Point boasts a team goal against average of .800 which is tied for 28th in the country.  

  • High Point has faced five Quad one opponents this season going 2-0-3 in those games.  


SCOUTING VMI 

  • VMI went 5-11-2 last year while going 0-5 in the SoCon.  

  • The Keydets were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll. 

  • Head Coach Nick Regan has gone 14-46-6 in the last four seasons as coach.  

  • Thimson Duolo has the most total points for VMI so far this season with seven (3G,1A).  

  • Jesse Lee is the Keydets' primary playmaker, having three assists so far this season.  

  • Goalkeeper Zack Murphy averages 4.33 saves per game, which is tied for 40th in the nation.

UP NEXT   
UNCG travels to Charlottesville, Virginia, to take on No. 16 Virginia next Tuesday, Oct. 16. Then the Spartans return home to host SoCon foe Wofford on Saturday, Oct. 18. The match against Wofford will be Homecoming night for the Spartans as well as Carolina Core night. A food truck will also be in attendance.
