Asidanya Records Career-Best 22 Points as Auburn Squeaks Past Women’s Basketball, 64-57

AUBURN, ALA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell in a 64-57 battle with the Auburn Tigers on Monday night in Neville Arena.  
 
Makiah Asidanya led the Spartans with a new career-best 22 points after achieving a game-high of five three-pointers. Rylan Moffitt added a season-best 13 points to round out the double-figure scoring for UNCG.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tigers got on the board first in the contest, going 1-for-2 at the free throw line at 9:28 just before the home team knocked down a triple for a 4-0 lead. Jaila Lee cut the Spartans deficit to two after driving in for a layup at 7:28. The Tigers added to their advantage with eight unanswered points to make it 14-3 Auburn at 3:29. A three-pointer from Lee, followed by a field goal from Moffitt, made it a six-point game, with 1:36 remaining in the first frame. Auburn secured a 5-0 run to close out the first quarter with a 19-8 lead.
 
The second frame was an even score, 15-15. The quarter started out as a three-point battle with both teams exchanging three triples apiece in the first three minutes. Asidanya knocked down a three-pointer at 7:07 to propel the Spartans to a 9-0 run, cutting the deficit to five, 28-23. Auburn was able to bounce back with two consecutive three-pointers to hold a 34-23 lead at the half.
 
Jeni Levine got the scoring started coming out of the locker room with a jumper at 9:22, 34-25. However, Auburn notched six-straight points for a 40-25 advantage. The scoring toggled back-and-forth before the Tigers were able to close out the third quarter with a 7-0 scoring run to hold a 53-37 lead going to the break.
 
The Spartans came out of the huddle to outscore the Tigers, 20-11, in the final quarter. UNCG started out the fourth stanza with a 16-2 run to make it a two-point game, 55-53, with 3:49 remaining in the contest. Auburn maintained the lead with four straight points. The Spartans stayed in it with a 4-2 run. However, Auburn's Mya Petticord knocked down a triple in the final minute of the game to allow the Tigers to walk away with the 64-57 win. 

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Along with Asidanya's 22 points, she chipped in five rebounds and two steals.
  • Moffitt led the Spartans with seven boards and added two steals.
  • Levine added seven points.
  • Tasia Johnson and Lee secured six points apiece.
  • Lee matched her career-best of five assists.
  • UNCG recorded 10 three-pointers in the game.
