RALEIGH, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team fell to in-state foe NC State on Wednesday night, 110-64, at the Lenovo Center in non-conference play.
Wednesday's matchup marked the 13
th meeting between the Spartans and Wolfpack, with NC State leading 12-1. This was the first meeting since Dec. 15, 2019.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Donald Whitehead Jr. made the first layup of the game before NC State responded with a three-pointer at 19:20. The score toggled until the first tied score of the game at six, as
Justin Neely drove to the basket at 17:30. The score was tied three more times in less than a minute of play, which was capped by Whitehead Jr.'s first three-pointer of the game at 14:57, knotting the game at 16-16. The Pack went up seven behind an 8-1 run, 24-17, with 12:09 left in the half. Nine-straight points from the Spartans put them up by two, 26-24, with 9:33 left. NC State saw its first double-figure advantage at 3:32 that ended with a layup from Alyn Breed, 41-30. The Pack kept their distance, climbing to a 13-point lead, 45-32, and went into the break with a 10-point gap, 47-37.
NC State remained ahead throughout the entire second half. The Spartans cut the deficit to eight with 17:07 on the clock by a three-pointer from Whitehead. The Pack was quick to expand their lead to double figures and eventually saw a 48-point cushion, their largest advantage of the game with just 55 seconds left, 110-62. NC State walked away with a 110-64 victory.
