Men’s Soccer Enters SoCon Tournament Final Against Furman on Sunday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 18 and third seed UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team advances to its 12th Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament Final in program history. The Spartans will face No. 12 and first seed Furman at Stone Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina, at 2:00 p.m

SERIES VS. FURMAN 
The Spartans are leading the series 24-21-5 with the last matchup between the two resulting in a 2-0 loss at Stone Stadium in Greenville, South Carolina, on October. 25, 2025.  
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS 
UNCG concluded the Semifinal round of The SoCon Tournament last Saturday with a 3-0 victory over Mercer. Arnaud Tattevin, Téva Lossec and Colton Sessoms each scored a goal.  
 
SPARTANS IN SOCON POSTSEASON 

  • UNCG has won five SoCon Championships since joining the league in 1997, with the last title coming in 2022. 

  • The last time UNCG beat Furman in the SoCon Championship was in 1998 with a 1-0 final score.  

  • In 2024, UNCG won the Co-Regular Season Championship with ETSU and entered SoCon Tournament as the No. 1 seed.  

  • The 2022 season was the last time UNCG played in a SoCon Championship game. UNCG dispatched Mercer, 2-1, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.  

  • The last time a three seed won the tournament was in 2018, when No. 3 Furman defeated No.1 UNCG 3-0 in the championship.  

  • Furman eliminated UNCG last season in the 2024 SoCon Tournament in penalty kicks (5-4) in Greensboro, North Carolina.  

  • The old foes have faced each other in SoCon Tournament play 11 times (Furman leads 6-5).  

ABOUT THE SPARTANS 

  • UNCG ranks 26th in RPI and 18th in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll.    

  • The Spartans boast the second most All-SoCon players in the league with nine honorees, announced on Nov. 6th.  

  • Enoz Dovlo is second on the Spartans in goals with 10 and first in assists with eight for 28 points. 

  • Tattevin is leads the team and is ninth in the nation in goals with 12, while also having two assists on the season. This postseason, he has scored four goals in two games played.  

  • This is the first time since 2006, where two Spartans have had 10+ goals in a season.  

  • Steven Hernandez is third on the team in total points with 15 (5G,5A).   

  •  The trio of Dovlo, Tattevin and Hernandez have scored 28 out of the 43 goals this season.  

  •  The Spartans boast one of the best offenses in the nation and are ranked fourth in total goals (43), 11th in scoring offense (2.26), 11th in total points (123), 18th in points per game (6.47) and 27th in total assists (37).  

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the six first-place votes and totaling 24 points.     

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall and 3-1-1 in SoCon and a shared Regular Season Title with ETSU. 

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors.         

SCOUTING FURMAN 

  • Furman is currently ranked 21st in RPI and is 12th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.  

  • The Paladins are 3-0-3 in Quad 1 and Quad 2 opponents this year.   

  • Furman's Head Coach Doug Allison is retiring after 31 seasons in Greenville. He enters the conference final with a record of 362-174-76 

  • The Dins' boast 13 All-SoCon award winners this season, the most by any team. 

  • Furman is led offensively by SoCon Player of the Year Diego Hernandez, who has nine goals and eight assists this season.   

  • Wilfer Bustamante is the second leading scorer on the team with seven goals and six assists.   

  • Ivan Horvat won Goalkeeper of the Year with 48 saves and .785 goals against average.  

  • Freshman Branden Dunham won SoCon Freshman of the Year with six goals and two assists in his first year.    

  • Furman is one of the top offensive teams in the nation, with the sixth best scoring offense (2.44), assists per game (2.72) and points per game (7.61). The Paladins are also tied at eighth in the nation in goal differential with a positive 28.
