Six Spartans Reach Double-Figures as Men’s Basketball Drops Contest at Queens, 101-94

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team dropped a 101-94 contest at Queens on Thursday night at Curry Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina.
 
Six Spartans reached double-figures in the game. KJ Younger led the game with 22 points and Justin Neely followed closely behind with 19 points. Donald Whitehead Jr. chipped in 14 points, while Lilian Marville and Domas Kauzonas notched 11 points apiece. Valentino Pinedo rounded out the Spartans in double-figures with 10 points.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Both teams exchanged layups before Queens began a 15-4 run to take a 17-6 advantage at 14:47. Later with 12:37 on the clock and the Royals on top, 22-12, the Spartans notched seven-straight points to cut the deficit to three, 22-19 at 11:03. However, Queens responded with a 5-0 spark to maintain control. To close out the first half, the Royals recorded seven unanswered points for a 14-point lead, 51-38, before Younger went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to close out the first half with Queens in control, 51-39.

Both teams went back-and-forth coming out of the locker room. With Queens holding a 64-51 lead, UNCG notched a 9-2 run to make it a two-possession game at 14:19, 66-60. The Royals chipped away to stay in control, but the Spartans remained close for the remainder of the contest. The Spartans were able to make it a 10-point game on five different occasions in the second half. With Queens in control, 93-81, a 5-0 Spartan run made it a seven-point game, 93-86. However, the Royals countered with four-straight points, 97-86. Queens was inevitably able to secure the game, 101-94.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Younger paced the Spartans with two triples.
  • Neely led the squad with eight boards, while Pinedo added seven.
  • Pinedo led UNCG with one block and two steals.
  • UNCG bested Queens in points off turnovers (5-2), second chance points (14-12) and points in the paint (46-36).

UP NEXT
The Spartans will continue their six-game road slate with three games in Jacksonville, Florida. The first two Youngstown State (Nov. 23 – 6:00 p.m.) and Delaware (Nov. 25 – 2:00 p.m.) will be played as part of the 2025 Jacksonville Classic. The third game against Miami (Ohio) on Nov. 26 at 2:00 p.m. will be a neutral site game. All three games will be played at Edward Waters College.
