Volleyball to Begin Postseason Quest with SoCon Quarterfinal Match Against Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The fifth-seeded UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will begin its postseason quest as it takes on No. 4 Chattanooga in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Quarterfinal match on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in Asheville, North Carolina, at Harrah's Cherokee Center.

The Spartans concluded the regular season 16-11 overall and 9-7 in the SoCon, while the Mocs posted a 16-12 overall record and finished 10-6 in conference.
 
UNCG secured both regular season meetings with the Mocs, notching a 3-1 win in Chattanooga on Oct. 3 and a 3-0 sweep in Greensboro on Nov. 1. The Mocs lead in the overall series against the Spartans at 34-25.

FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
  • On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
  • This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
  • This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.  
  • The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.  
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG went 1-1 in its final week of regular season action. The Spartans fell to ETSU in a five-set thriller in Johnson City, Tennessee, on Thursday, Nov. 13 before returning home to take down Wofford in a straight-set victory on Saturday, Nov. 15.
  • Gabby Seeds picked up her third SoCon Setter of the Week in the final round of weekly awards on Monday. 
  • Seeds recorded 71 assists and a .346 set percentage on the week. She averaged 8.88 assists per set in eight sets played, while adding 21 digs, two kills, one ace and one block on the week.
  • Allie Sweet recorded two double-doubles last week, marking 21 in her career and 16 this season. On the week, Sweet recorded 27 kills, three aces and 27 digs.
  • Chloe Nussbaum led the Spartans with 36 total digs for a 4.50 digs per set average on the week in eight sets.
SPARTANS IN SOCON POSTSEASON
  • UNCG is 10-19 overall in SoCon Tournament matches.
  • The Spartans have made it to the SoCon Final twice in program history with the last time coming in 2007 with a 3-1 loss to the College of Charleston.
  • UNCG will look to secure its first ever SoCon Tournament title in program history.
  • This will be the third-ever meeting between the Mocs and Spartans in the SoCon Tournament.
  • The two teams met in 2016 and 2017. Chattanooga secured the 2016 meeting in the SoCon Semifinals, 3-2, while UNCG picked up the 2017 matchup in the SoCon Quarterfinals, 3-1.
  • This marks the first time since 2021 that the Spartans have bypassed the first round to earn the automatic bye to the SoCon Quarterfinals.
  • Last season, the Spartans defeated No. 8 Western Carolina in the first round of the SoCon Tournament, 3-0, for their first match win in postseason play since 2017. However, the season was concluded with a 3-0 loss to No. 1 Mercer in the SoCon Quarterfinal round.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • Connore' Siler-Nixon and Sweet collected SoCon All-Conference selections as Siler-Nixon was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team and Sweet was tabbed to the All-SoCon First Team, announced by the conference on Wednesday.
  • The Spartans concluded the 2025 regular season with 16 victories, marking the most wins since the 2021 season.
  • UNCG collected 11 home wins this season for the most wins in Greensboro since the 2017 season with 12.
  • The last time UNCG captured nine SoCon wins was in the 2021 season as that squad went 12-4 in conference play.
  • UNCG stands out in the top-50 nationally in digs per set (37th/15.92) and total digs (48th/1,672).
  • The squad is pacing the SoCon in service aces with 172.
  • The Spartans are second in the conference in aces per set (1.64), digs per set (15.92) and assists (1,248).
  • Sweet currently leads the SoCon in attacks per set (12.49), kills per set (4.32), points (519.0), points per set (4.94), total attacks (1,311) and total kills (454). Her 519.0 points this season puts her at 12th nationally, while her 454 kills ranks her at 15th in the country.
  • Nussbaum stands out nationally at 34th in total digs (482) and 41st in digs per set (4.59).
  • Seeds is second in the SoCon with 883 total assists and a 9.60 assists per set average.
  • Seeds reached the 1,000-career assist milestone in the team's reverse sweep win over UNC Asheville on Sept. 20 in Greensboro.
  • The Spartans collected seven SoCon Player of the Week mentions this season: Seeds (Oct. 20, Nov. 3 & Nov. 17), Siler-Nixon (Oct. 6), Sweet (Sept. 1 & Sept. 15) and Nussbaum (Sept. 1).
  • The 2025 squad features 10 returners and six newcomers. Out of the six newcomers, four are transfer students and two are freshmen.
  • UNCG was picked to finish the SoCon regular season in a tie for fifth place with Chattanooga.
  • Sweet was selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Sweet's preseason nod comes after being named the 2024 SoCon Freshman of the Year, while also being voted to the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team last season.
SCOUTING CHATTANOOGA
  • The Mocs finished the regular season at 16-12 overall and 10-6 in the SoCon to earn the fourth seed.
  • Chattanooga secured back-to-back wins to close out the regular season with victories over The Citadel (3-0) and Furman (3-1) in Chattanooga.
  • The Mocs fell to Wofford, 3-0, in the SoCon Quarterfinals last season.
  • Chattanooga paces the SoCon and is 35th nationally with a 16.00 digs per set average.
  • The Mocs are second in the league in attacks per set (35.80), digs (1,712), kills (1,337) and total attacks (3,831).
  • Caiti Barthel leads the SoCon and is 20th nationally with 515 digs this season. She is second in the league and 22nd nationally with a 4.81 digs per set average.
  • Sydney Jackwin is second in the conference with 38 service aces this season. She leads the team with 368 kills this season.
  • Ashley Reynolds is the leading setter on the team with 632 assists.
  • Kynli Kirkendoll and Jordin Glass stand out in the middle with 102 and 80 blocks, respectively.
  • Jackwin was tabbed to the All-SoCon First Team, while Glass was named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team.

A win over the Mocs on Friday would move UNCG on to face the winner of the No. 1 ETSU vs. No. 8 Western Carolina/No. 9 The Citadel on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in Asheville, North Carolina, at Harrah's Cherokee Center.
