CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team dropped a 94-48 contest at No. 14 North Carolina on Sunday night at Carmichael Arena in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.
Jeni Levine paced the contest with a new season-high of 21 points.
Makiah Asidanya added 10 points to round out the Spartans in double-figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Tar Heels got on the board first after going 2-for-2 at the charity stripe on the first possession.
Tasia Johnson knotted things up on the other end with a jumper in the paint at 8:42, 2-2. North Carolina quickly responded with eight straight points to never allow the Spartans to lead in the contest. With North Carolina in control, 23-5, the Spartans had one last chance in the first quarter. With the clock winding down, Levine launched a half-court buzzer beater that was nothing-but-net, but both teams headed to the bench with the Tar Heels holding a 23-8 lead.
North Carolina got the scoring started in the second quarter with five unanswered points, 28-8. A triple from Asidanya at 7:32 began a 6-2 Spartan run, 30-14 at 7:04. Both teams tallied four triples apiece in the second frame for a little back-and-forth action. However, the Tar Heels maintained the 49-30 lead heading in the locker room.
The Tar Heels came out of the break to notch a 9-2 run for a 58-32 advantage at 5:40. With North Carolina on top, 67-34, Johnson and Levine knocked down two consecutive Spartan three-pointers. However, North Carolina was able to record a triple of its own to close out the third frame on top, 70-40.
North Carolina continued its momentum into the final frame to outscore UNCG, 24-8. Levine tallied the final points for the Blue & Gold at 1:51 with a three-point play, 89-48. However, the Tar Heels recorded the next five points to claim the 94-48 win.
