JACKSONVILLE, FLA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team dropped an 82-71 non-conference game to Miami (Ohio) on Wednesday afternoon at Adams-Jenkins Complex in Jacksonville, Florida, in the first-annual Riley Decker Co Showcase Game.
Three Spartans scored double figures, including
KJ Younger leading the team with 14 points.
Justin Neely recorded his fourth double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and tallying 11 rebounds.
Assane Mandian rounded out the double-figure scorers with 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Miami drained the first three-pointer of the game at 19:06, but the Spartans scored five-straight points to take the lead, 5-3. After four tied scores, including the latter being at 12:12 on the clock and the game knotted at 14-14, the RedHawks climbed to a seven-point advantage, 24-17. The Spartans went on one of their largest runs of the season, a 22-4 stretch for an 11-point cushion, 39-28, with just 2:18 remaining in the first half. Miami concluded the first frame with a 6-3 run that cut the deficit to eight, 42-34.
Miami continued its offensive momentum into the second half with a 6-1 run, that brought them within four, 44-40. UNCG maintained the lead until the Redhawks' Brant Bryers hit back-to-back three-pointers, two of their seven in the half, for a 61-60 advantage with 8:05 remaining. The score toggled before Miami utilized a 13-2 run to climb to a 1-0-point lead, 74-64, with 4:38 left in the half. A Younger three-pointer and two free throws from Neely cut the deficit to five, 74-69, but Miami finished the game with an 8-2 run to claim an 82-71 win.
