Men’s Soccer Battles No. 6 VMI in SoCon First Round on Friday

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The No. 20 UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's soccer team is set to begin The 2025 Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament play against VMI on Friday at Betts Stadium in Macon, Georgia, at 7 p.m.  
 
The Spartans enter as the third seed with their 10-3-4 overall record and 3-2 conference mark. The Keydets concluded the regular season 3-11-3 overall and 1-4 in the league, earning the final spot in the standings.

SERIES VS. VMI 
The Spartans are leading the series 24-0 with the Spartans most recently securing a 2-0 win over the Keydets on Oct. 11 in Greensboro, North Carolina.  
 
LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS 
UNCG concluded the regular season with a 3-0 win over Mercer. With the win and ETSU loss, the Spartans moved up to the third seed. Arnaud Tattevin secured a brace in the match with Steven Hernandez adding a late goal in the second half to give UNCG the dominant 3-0 win.  
 
SPARTANS IN SOCON POSTSEASON 

  • UNCG has won five SoCon Championships since joining the league in 1997, with the last title coming in 2022. 

  • In 2024, UNCG won the Co-Regular Season Championship with ETSU and entered SoCon Tournament as the No. 1 seed. The Spartans were upset by No. 4 Furman in Greensboro on penalty kicks.  

  • The 2022 season was the last time UNCG played in a SoCon Championship game. Where UNCG dispatched Mercer, 2-1, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.  

  • UNCG and VMI last faced off in the playoffs in 2001. The Spartans earned a 1-0 victory at College of Charleston Soccer Complex in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina. 

ABOUT THE SPARTANS 

  • UNCG ranks 24th in RPI and 20th in the United Soccer Coaches Poll.    

  • Enzo Dovlo leads the Spartans and is tied for first in the SoCon in total points with nine goals and six assists for 24 points on the season.  

  • Tattevin is second on the team in goals with eight, while also having two assists on the season.    

  • Hernandez is third on the team in total points with 12 (5G,2A).   

  •  The trio of Dovlo, Tattevin and Hernandez have scored 22 out of the 36 goals this season.  

  •  The Spartans boast one of the best offenses in the nation and are ranked 12th in total goals (36), 20th in scoring offense (2.12), 22th in total points (101), 28th in points per game (5.94) and 43rd in total assists (29).  

  • The Spartans were voted first in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning four out of the six first-place votes and totaling 24 points.     

  • The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 10-2-5 overall and 3-1-1 in SoCon and a shared Regular Season Title with ETSU. 

  • The squad boasts 11 returners from last season and nine seniors.         

SCOUTING VMI 

  • VMI concluded the 2025 season 3-11-3 while going 1-4 in the SoCon.   

  • Head Coach Nick Regan has gone 15-50-6 in the last four seasons as coach.   

  • Thimson Duolo has the most total points for VMI so far this season with seven (3G,1A).   

  • Jesse Lee is the Keydets' primary playmaker, having three assists so far this season.   

  • Goalkeeper Zack Murphy averages 4.88 saves per game, which is 15th in the nation.  

  • Murphy also leads the SoCon and ranks seventh in the nation in total saves with 78.  

  • The Keydets were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
