Women’s Basketball Dominates in Education Day Win Over Columbia College

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team earned a dominating win over Columbia College on Tuesday, 96-25, in the team's Education Day at Bodford Arena in Greensboro, North Carolina.
 
Five Spartans reached double-figures in the game. Jeni Levine led the contest with 20 points. Joelle Davis followed behind with a new career-best 14 points. Ciara Harris added 13 points, while Tasia Johnson and Makiah Asidanya chipped in 12 points apiece.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Six consecutive points from Asidanya got the scoring started in the contest for Columbia College to never lead in the game. Four different Spartans tallied a triple in the first quarter with Johnson and Davis closing it out with back-to-back three-pointers to grant UNCG with a 23-9 lead at the end of the first quarter.
 
UNCG continued to control the tempo by outscoring the Koalas, 25-4, in the second frame. With the squad in control, 28-11, the Spartans tallied 20 unanswered points for a 48-11 lead. Columbia College went 2-for-2 at the free throw line, but the Spartans held the 48-13 lead going to the locker room.
 
Rylan Moffitt posted the first points of the second half with a turnaround jumper at 9:48, propelling UNCG to an 11-2 run for a 59-15 lead at 5:52. UNCG closed out the third stanza with four-straight points to hold a 72-19 lead heading to the break.
 
UNCG continued to dominate in the final frame. Harris posted the first two baskets for the Spartans to take the 76-19 lead at 9:35. Davis posted the final bucket of the game, coming from behind the arc for UNCG to walk away comfortably with the 96-25 win.

  • Moffitt led the game with 10 rebounds.
  • Mia Simpson added a season-best eight points.
  • Leyla Minor and Moffitt chipped in six points each.
  • Johnson tallied new career-bests of nine rebounds and seven assists.
  • 10 different Spartans scored in the contest.
  • Harris added a season-best seven boards.
  • UNCG led the way in points off turnovers (24-4), rebounds (56-29), second chance points (19-6), bench points (40-19), points in the paint (58-16), fast break points (31-4), blocks (4-2), steals (12-6) and assists (25-3).
