GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team is set to conclude its five-game homestand by kicking off the New Year with two Southern Conference (SoCon) opponents starting with Chattanooga on Thursday and Samford on Saturday. Both games will begin at 4:00 p.m. inside Bodford Arena and are part of doubleheaders with the women's team playing at 1:00 p.m.
Fans who attend the women's game (who do not already have a ticket to the men's game) are able to stay for the men's game but must relocate to section two in Bodford Arena upon conclusion of the 1:00 p.m. games on Thursday and Saturday. If fans have a men's ticket, you are allowed to enter the women's games both days.
This will be the 59
th meeting between the Spartans and Mocs, with the overall series tied 29-29. Last year, the two teams split the regular season series, where UNCG won, 78-75, and then Chattanooga claimed the victory, 75-63.
This will be the 39th meeting between the Spartans and Bulldogs with UNCG having the slight edge, 21-17, in the overall series. The two teams split the regular season series last year, where Samford took the first win, 76-69, and UNCG claimed a 108-100 victory.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
- UNCG's soared past Virginia University of Lynchburg, 131-53, to conclude the 2025 non-conference slate.
- Every Spartan that had minutes, recorded at last one point.
- Six Spartans scored double figures, including Justin Neely and Donald Whitehead Jr., who paced the game with 20 points apiece.
- Neely also contributed 14 rebounds, which pushed him over the 500 career-rebounds milestone. He now has 507 career rebounds in 80 games played.
- The Spartans' 131 points is the second-most in program history, where UNCG's 135 points from Dec. 21, 2023, against the Dragons is the most.
- The Blue & Gold's 65 rebounds against the Dragons are also the second-most in program history, with 68 being the program record from Dec. 21, 2023, against Va. Univ. of Lynchburg.
- UNCG's 50 field goals is also the second-most in program history, again sitting behind the record of 55 field goals from Dec. 21, 2023, against the Dragons.
- The 78-point margin of victory matches the highest in program history. According to UNCG records, this is the third time in program history that the Blue & Gold have won by 78 points.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- Neely is pacing the team with a double-double, averaging 15.0 points per game and 11.2 rebounds per game. He is also averaging 2.7 assists and 1.1 steals per game to sit atop the team.
- Among the SoCon, Neely is leading the league in double-doubles (7), rebounds (146), defensive rebounds per game (8.38) and rebounds per game (11.2)
- He is also nationally ranked fourth in rebounds and defensive rebounds per game, seventh in rebounds per game and 10th in double-doubles.
- KJ Younger (12.5), Whitehead Jr. (12.2) and Lilian Marville (10.4) round out the Spartans averaging double-figure points.
- Neely was voted SoCon Player of the Week on Nov. 24 after averaging a double-double with 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game in a 1-1 week in Florida.
- UNCG is leading the SoCon in free throw attempts per game (24.5) and free throws made per game (16.9).
- The Spartans are second in the conference in three-point percentage (34.2).
- The 2025-26 roster features three returners and 11 newcomers.
- Six of the 15 student-athletes are international, which is the largest international class under fifth-year Head Coach Mike Jones.
- UNCG was picked to finish fifth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll with 43 votes.
- The Spartans will play 10 games in Bodford Arena and four games in the First Horizon Coliseum this season.
- UNCG went 20-12 overall and 13-5 in the SoCon in the 2024-25 season.
- This was the eighth year out of nine with 20 or more wins for the Spartans.
- The Spartans concluded the 2024-25 season ranked 14th in three-point percentage defense (30.1), 15th in field goal percentage defense (40.0), 25th in scoring defense (65.4), 26th in turnovers per game (9.9) and 32nd three-point percentage (37.2).
- Coach Jones achieved his third year out of four winning 20 or more games last season with the Spartans.
- UNCG entered the 2025 SoCon Tournament as the second seed, marking the third consecutive year under Jones that the team has secured a top three seed.
SCOUTING THE MOCS
- Chattanooga was voted to finish first in the 2025-26 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll. It received five first-place votes.
- Jikari Johnson, Collin Muliholland and Teddy Washington Jr. were voted to the 2025-26 Preseason All-Conference Team.
- The Mocs are coming off a Dec. 21, 73-66 victory over Alabama A&M.
- Jordan Frison is pacing the team with 15.0 points per game, while Sebastian Hartmann is leading the squad with 5.0 rebounds per game.
- Frison is averaging 4.0 assists per game, which is third in the SoCon.
- The Mocs are leading the SoCon in assist/turnover ratio (1.74), bench points per game (30.68), free throw percentage (74.6), three-point percentage (35.1) and turnovers per game (9.5).
- They are nationally ranked in the top 20 in three categories: three-point attempts per game (11th/32.0), three pointers per game (13th/11.2) and turnovers per game (19th).
- Chattanooga has the edge over its opponents in points per game (77.7-71.3), field goals per game (26.7-24.0), three pointers per game (11.2-7.3), assists per game (16.6-12.9) and steals per game (6.6-5.5).
- The Mocs concluded the 2024-25 season 29-9 overall and 15-3 in the SoCon.
- They received their fifth bid into the NIT and came out with the 2025 Championship, where the Mocs defeated UC Irvine, 85-84.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
- Samford was voted to finish third in the 2025-26 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- Jadin Booth and Dylan Faulkner were voted to the 2025-26 Preseason All-Conference Team.
- The Bulldogs will travel to Lexington, Virginia, to face VMI for their first SoCon matchup on Jan. 1 before traveling to Greensboro.
- Samford is coming off three-straight wins before the break, including an 85-49 win over Reinhardt, a 106-51 victory over Bryan and a 93-90 defeat over Cornell.
- Booth is pacing the team with 18.6 points per game, while Faulkner (15.5) and Keaton Norris (10.9) round out the double-figure scorers.
- Frison is averaging 4.0 assists per game, which is third in the SoCon.
- Booth is leading the SoCon in three pointers per game (3.82), minutes per game (33:36) and free throw percentage (91.1).
- The Bulldogs are second in the SoCon assist/turnover ratio (1.45), fouls per game (15.4), free throw attempts per game (23.6), defensive rebounds per game (27.69) and turnovers per game (9.8).
- Samford has the edge over its opponents in points per game (77.2-75.8), three pointers per game (9.5-8.2), free throws per game (15.6-12.6), assists per game (14.2-13.4) and points off turnovers (11.3-10.9).
- The Bulldogs concluded the 2024-25 season 22-11 overall and 12-6 in the SoCon.
- They received their first bid into the NIT and fell to George Mason, 86-69.
FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
- On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
- This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
- This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.
- The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.
