Long Inducted into 2025 Sylvania Schools Foundation Hall of Fame

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jane Long, an over 20-year staff member of the UNC Greensboro (UNCG) athletics department was inducted into the 2025 Hall of Fame Class of Sylvania Schools Foundation in August 2025.

As a part of the Sylvania High School Class of 1975, Long competed in three sports during her high school career, including basketball, tennis and track.

"I am humbled and honored to be included into my high school athletic hall of fame," said Long. "I am the only female from my class to be inducted and I'm in very good company with the men from my class who have been included!"

The Sylvania Distinguished Alumni Hall of Fame recognizes outstanding Sylvania graduates, offering community members, educators and current students an opportunity to appreciate the diverse nature of Sylvania's alumni's accomplishments. The criteria for the nominations are, graduated from Sylvania Schools at least 10 years prior to current year, achieved local, state or national recognition, made significant contributions to mankind, can be living or deceased and must be of excellent character. 

"What an honor it was to meet and induct Jane," said Jodi Hess, Sylvania Schools Alumni Coordinator. "I myself was an athlete who played women's sports and am truly thankful for the roads Jane paved."

Long would go on after high school to gain her bachelor's degree at Eastern Kentucky in 1979. She has achieved two master's degrees in her education, including one at UNCG in 1990 and the other at Tennessee in 1982.

Long began her career at UNCG as an assistant director of equipment and apparel in 2005. She was elevated to director of equipment and apparel in 2014, where she currently works, entering her 21st year for the Blue & Gold.
