GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team will host VMI on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. at the UNCG Soccer Stadium and travel to Johnson City, Tennessee, to face ETSU on Sunday for a 1:00 p.m. start time to begin The Southern Conference (SoCon) action.

The Spartans are leading the series 13-9-1. The two teams tied 1-1 in the 2024 matchup in Greensboro.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
Liberty defeated UNCG, 4-0, on Thursday, Sept. 11 in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Lady Flames outshot the Spartans, 20-9, held the advantage in corner kicks, 5-0, but UNCG had five saves to Liberty's two.
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
- The Spartans concluded the 2024 season 5-9-5 overall and 3-3-3 in The Southern Conference (SoCon).
- The Spartans were voted to finish sixth in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll, earning 45 points.
- Redshirt senior midfielder Rachel Poplin was named to the 2025 SoCon Preason All-Conference Team.
- Poplin has started and played in all 19 games the past two seasons for the Blue & Gold with a career total of 3,238 minutes. She notched two goals for four points during the 2024 campaign.
- Emma Malone returns as the leading goalkeeper after notching 61 saves with a 1.14 GAA in 2024.
- Taylor Mentzer is the returning leading scorer for the Spartans after the senior recorded five goals last season.
- Merle Greulich follows closely behind as the returning leading scorer with four goals last season and was recognized as the 2024 SoCon Freshman of the Year.
- Ava Kiss returns after leading the team with three assists last season and posting three goals as well.
- Rina Ogimoto paces the team with five points (2G, 1A) this season.
- Kiss, Mairead Gayer, Bailey Gourdine and Becca Graeser each have one goal.
SCOUTING VMI
- VMI concluded the 2024 season 6-11-2 overall and 1-7-1 in SoCon play.
- The Keydets were voted to finish 10th in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- VMI most recently earned its first win with a 3-1 victory over Saint Francis (Pa.) on Sunday in Lexington, Virginia.
- The Keydets played to a 0-0 draw against Winthrop on August 28.
- Taliyah Headman is leading the Keydets with five points (2G, 1A).
- Mackenzie Hobik and Madeline Karsonovich are tied for second with three points each (1 G, 1A).
- Maren Ryberg has spent the most time in net, starting and playing in eight games with a 3.39 goals-against average and 54 saves. Leslie Surita-Perez has started in one game and played in five games.
SCOUTING ETSU
- ETSU concluded the 2024 season 4-8-4 overall and 3-3-3 in SoCon play.
- The Buccaneers were voted to finish seventh in the 2025 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.
- ETSU will visit The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, on Thursday before facing the Spartans.
- Four of the five wins for the Bucs this season have come by way of a shutout.
- They are also on a four-game win streak, which is the longest for any SoCon team currently.
- The Bucs are outscoring their opponents, 12-8, averaging 1.33 goals a game compared to their opponents' 0.89. They also are outmatching their opponents in corner kicks, 44-28.
- Reagan Fitzgerald is leading the team and second in the conference with 14 points. Her seven goals is leading the conference and is eighth in the nation.
- Five others from ETSU have each scored one goal apiece.
- Addison Yelton has started and played in nine games this season, allowing just seven goals for a 0.79 goals against average with 14 saves.
