Volleyball to Conclude Non-Conference Slate Hosting Battle of North Carolina

GREENSBORO, N.C. –  The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team will conclude its 2025 non-conference slate this weekend by hosting the Battle of North Carolina. The Spartans will welcome North Carolina A&T and UNC Asheville to Fleming Gymnasium on Friday and Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG went 1-2 at the UNC Wilmington (UNCW) Invitational last week, falling 3-2 to Charlotte and West Georgia, but defeating UNCW, 3-2.
  • Gabby Seeds was the leading setter for the Spartans last week with 146 assists and a 9.73 assists per set average. Seeds added five aces, 22 digs and 10 total blocks on the week.
  • Allie Sweet led the Spartans offensively on the week with 76 kills and a 5.07 kills per set average. She collected three double-doubles in all three matches, tallying 10 in her career and five this season. Sweet recorded five aces, 39 digs and 5.0 total blocks on the week.
  • Sweet's stellar performance last week allowed her to be named The Southern Conference (SoCon) Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday for the second time this season and fourth time in her career.
  • Chloe Nussbaum stood out defensively for the Spartans, notching 66 digs for a 4.40 digs per set average. On the week, Nussbaum added 11 assists and three aces. 
ABOUT THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG comes into the final weekend of non-conference play with a 5-4 overall record.
  • The Spartans began the 2025 season going 3-0 in the 2025 Spartan Classic.
  • The Spartans knocked off Queens, 3-1, Sacred Heart, 3-0, and Gardner-Webb, 3-1, to open the 2025 season in Fleming Gymnasium.
  • UNCG stands out in top-50 nationally in five statistical categories: digs per set (15th/16.69), digs (17th/601), opponent hitting percentage (21st/.150), attacks per set (40th/36.50) and total attacks (40th/1,314).
  • The squad is pacing the SoCon in eight categories: assists per set (11.92), digs per set (16.69), opponent hitting percentage (.150), assists (429), digs (601), kills (457), service aces (60) and total attacks (1,314).
  • Sweet is currently ranked in the top-15 nationally among six statistical categories: attacks per set (1st/13.56), total attacks (2nd/488), points (6th/190.0), total kills (8th/168) points per set (11th/5.28) and kills per set (15th/4.67).
  • Nussbaum stands out nationally at seventh in digs per set (5.36) and total digs (193).
  • Sweet is leading the SoCon in attacks per set (13.56), kills per set (4.67), points (190.0), points per set (5.28), total attacks (488), and total kills (168).
  • Nussbaum is pacing the league with 193 digs and a 5.36 digs per set average.
  • Robin Rosser is second in the conference with 14 service aces this season.
  • Sweet was named SoCon Offensive Player of the Week, while Nussbaum earned SoCon Defensive Player of the Week in the first round of SoCon weekly awards for the 2025 season on Sept. 1.
  • The 2025 squad features 10 returners and six newcomers. Out of the six newcomers four are transfer students and two are freshmen.
  • UNCG was picked to finish the SoCon regular season in a tie for fifth place with Chattanooga.
  • Sweet was selected to the SoCon Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • Sweet's preseason nod comes after being named SoCon Freshman of the Year, while also being voted to the All-SoCon First Team and All-Freshman Team last season.
SCOUTING NC A&T
  • The Aggies currently stand at 3-3 overall on the 2025 season.
  • North Carolina A&T started off 2-0 this season with wins over Bethune-Cookman (3-1) and Coppin State (3-2), as they hosted the Aggie/Phoenix Invitational on Aug. 29-30.
  • The team took two consecutive losses at Clemson before earning a win over Howard in Washington, D.C.
  • The Aggies most recently fell 3-0 to American on Sept. 13 in Washington, D.C.
  • The team will face Wake Forest Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. in Winston-Salem before taking on the Spartans Friday.
  • Leonor Polezzi is leading the CAA with a 9.42 assists per set average. She is leading the team with 226 assists and eight service aces.
  • Tynee Ross paces the league in attacks per set (12.21), kills per set (4.75) and points per set (5.27). She is pacing the team on the outside with 114 kills.
  • Valeria Estrada and Nicole Ellis are leading the Aggies defensively with 92 digs and 17.0 total blocks, respectively.
  • Ross was selected as the 2025 CAA Volleyball Preseason Player of the Year.
  • North Carolina A&T was voted to finish fourth in the 2025 CAA Volleyball Preseason Poll with one first-place vote.
SERIES HISTORY VS NC A&T
UNCG paces the all-time meetings with NC A&T at 34-5 overall. However, the Aggies secured the latest matchup with the Spartans, 3-0, in a neutral site meeting in Boone, North Carolina, on Sept. 8, 2023.

SCOUTING UNC ASHEVILLE
  • The Bulldogs will come over to Greensboro with a 3-8 overall record.
  • The team most recently earned a 3-1 victory over North Carolina Central on Tuesday night in Asheville.
  • UNC Asheville's non-conference slate is laid out with four SoCon opponents including Furman, Western Carolina, The Citadel and UNCG.
  • The Bulldogs fell to Furman (3-1), Western Carolina (2-3), but earned a 3-0 victory over the Citadel.
  • The Spartans and Bulldogs have played against two of the same opponents in their non-conference schedules with West Georgia and Campbell.
  • UNC Asheville is leading the Big South in blocks (97.0) and blocks per set (2.43).
  • Baylor Herlehy is ranked ninth in the country with 53 blocks. She leads the Big South with her 53 blocks and1.33 blocks per set.
  • Kylie Cackovic paces the league in kills (128), attacks (400) and points (141.0).
  • Selina Koc is leading setter on the squad with 194 assists.
  • Michelle Thao is the leading libero with 178 digs this season.
  • Cackovic and Thao were named to the 2025 Big South Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • The Bulldogs were picked to finish fourth in the 2025 Big South Preseason Poll.
SERIES HISTORY VS UNC ASHEVILLE
UNCG leads overall series against UNC Asheville at 12-7. The Bulldogs secured the most recent match against the Spartans, 3-2, in Greensboro on Sept. 16, 2023.

The Spartans will open the 2025 SoCon schedule at home, hosting Furman on Thursday, Sept. 25 and Samford on Friday, Sept. 26 in Fleming Gymnasium. Both matches are set for a 6:00 p.m. first serve.
