GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team concluded its 2025 non-conference schedule on Saturday night with a reverse sweep (22-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-12) victory over UNC Asheville in Greensboro, North Carolina, in Fleming Gymnasium.
The last time UNCG claimed a reverse sweep was in the 2021 season with a win over North Carolina Central in Greensboro.
With today's win over the Bulldogs, the Spartans have concluded the 2025 non-conference campaign 7-4 overall and remain undefeated at home, at 5-0. The last time UNCG started off 5-0 at home was in the 2021 season. In addition, 2021 was also the last time the Spartans captured seven or more wins in the non-conference slate, going 11-2.
After leading the match with 41 assists,
Gabby Seeds has reached the 1,000-career assist milestone. Seeds achieved 730 assists at Northwestern State and she has now collected 302 in her eight matches played as a Spartan.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – The Bulldogs tallied the first point of the match to never allow the Spartans to lead in the first game. UNC Asheville led by as much as six in the first set. UNCG continued to chip away, coming back within one late in the set, 23-22. However, the Bulldogs recorded two consecutive points to claim set one, 25-22.
Set 2 – UNC Asheville continued its momentum at the start of set two, claiming an early 5-1 lead over UNCG. A kill from
Allie Sweet began four-straight Spartan points to tie things up, 5-5. After the Bulldogs posted two more points, UNCG took its first lead of the match with a 3-0 run, making it 8-7 Spartans. The Bulldogs quickly responded with a 6-1 run to take a 13-9 lead and maintained control the rest of the way. UNC Asheville secured set one, 25-15.
Set 3 – UNCG found its stride in the third set, never allowing the Bulldogs to take the lead. The Spartans led by as much as six in the third frame. A block assist from
McKenna Timmerman and
Siena Smiejek and then a kill from Timmerman, the Spartans were able to secure the third game, 25-22.
Set 4 – UNCG maintained its pace in the fourth set, keeping UNC Asheville from taking the lead until late in the set. With the Spartans on top, 19-17, the Bulldogs captured a 5-1 run, taking a 22-20 advantage. However, two kills from Sweet and an attack error from UNC Asheville allowed the Spartans to regain the lead, 23-22. The Bulldogs put one more point on the board before a kill from Sweet and a block assist from Smiejek and
Robin Rosser granted UNCG with the fourth stanza, 25-23.
Set 5 – A kill from
Connore' Siler-Nixon put UNCG up first in the final set before UNC Asheville posted two-straight points. With the Bulldogs on top, 5-3, the Spartans posted four unanswered points, taking a 7-5 advantage and holding the lead the remainder of the stanza. A final kill from Sweet secured the set for UNCG, 15-12, for the 3-2 victory.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Sweet registered her 11th career double-double and sixth of the season after leading the Spartans with 17 kills and achieving a new career-best 17 digs.
- Timmerman followed closely behind with 16 kills.
- Seeds, Timmerman and Chloe Nussbaum recorded two service aces apiece.
- Smiejeck led the Spartans at the net with seven total blocks.
- Nussbaum recorded 15 kills for the Spartans
