ETSU Gets Past Men’s Basketball, 86-60

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team was unable to get past The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe ETSU, 86-60, on Saturday afternoon at Freedom Hall.

Justin Neely recorded his 10th double-double of the season and 17th of his career behind 13 points and 10 rebounds, while KJ Younger contributed 13 points and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
ETSU started the game off with a 7-0 run, before UNCG's Donald Whitehead Jr. sparked the Spartans' own seven-point rally point to tie the game, 7-7.  The game became tied three more times in the first half, with the latter being at 7:25, 22-22, on a three-pointer by Allen Strothers. The triple jump started a 10-0 run for the Bucs, giving them a seven-point cushion, 29-22. The Spartans responded with an 8-2 run, cutting the deficit to one, 31-30, with 1:39 remaining. UNCG kept the game within reach, but ETSU went into halftime with a 38-34 lead.

The Bucs' offense broke the game open with a 17-2 run for the first double-figure lead of the game, a 19-point gap, 55-26. ETSU continued to pester offensively, eventually climbing to a 29-point lead, 86-57, with 1:15 left on the clock. UNCG's Clyde Bailey II drained a three-pointer for the final basket of the game, as ETSU walked away with an 86-60 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Whitehead Jr. contributed nine points and two steals.
  • Noah Norgaard recorded eight points.
  • ETSU had the advantage in field goal percentage (59.7-34.0), three-point percentage (33.3-25.0), points in the paint (54-26), points off turnovers (25-4) and bench points (27-15).
  • UNCG led the game in second chance points (12-6), fast break points (15-9), rebounds (36-27) and free throw percentage (76.0-75.0).
