CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped both its matches to the Virginia Cavaliers with scores of 7-0 and 4-0 on Thursday in its 2026 spring opener at the Virginia Tennis Complex in Charlottesville, Virginia.
MATCH ONE: UVA 7, UNCG 0
- Virginia's Isabelle Lacy and Navarro Meggie defeated Ivet Sala-Sánchez and Sydney Bly, 6-1, on court three for the first doubles win.
- Vivian Yang and Melodie Collard kept the momentum going for Virginia with a 6-1 win over Sophia Cedeno and Lauren Thomson on court one to give the Cavaliers the 1-0 match advantage.
- Virginia would go on to claim all six singles matches for the 7-0 victory.
- Katie Rolls defeated Sala-Sánchez, 6-0, 6-0 on court four.
- Yang notched a 6-1, 6-1 win over Cedeno on court one.
- Blair Gill earned the match-clinching point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Sofia Somoano, 6-0, 6-0 on court six.
- Martina Genis Salas defeated Lauren Thomson on court two, 6-1, 6-0.
- Melodia Collard tallied the sixth point for UVA on court five after earning a 6-0, 6-0 win at singles No. 5.
- Sara Kostic posted the highest set points for the Spartans in the match with four, but Isabelle earned the 6-0, 6-4 win on court three for the 7-0 win.
MATCH TWO: UVA 4, UNCG 0
- The Cavaliers' Annabelle Xu and Katie Rolls defeated Sala-Sánchez and Bly, 6-0 on court two for the first doubles game.
- At doubles No. 1 Collard and Yang notched a 6-0 win over Somoano and Kostic to earn the doubles point for the 1-0 lead.
- At doubles No. 3, the matchup between UNCG's Thomson and Bushnell with Virginia's Lacy and Navarro ended unfinished at a close 4-3 battle in favor of the Cavaliers.
- Virginia would go on to earn the first three singles matches for the 4-0 match-clinching victory.
- Blair Gill defeated Bushnell, 6-0, 6-0, on court five.
- Thomson fell to Lacy on court three, 2-6, 0-6.
- Collard secured the match point with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bly at singles No. 4.
- The other singles matches remained unfinished, but Cedeno secured the most set points with four in the second set at court one.
