Women’s Basketball Falls to Chattanooga, 52-40

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell in a 52-40 battle with the Chattanooga Mocs in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Thursday night inside Bodford Arena.
 
Makiah Asidanya led the Spartans with 14 points and Jeni Levine followed with 11 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Chattanooga started out the contest with six unanswered points to never allow UNCG to gain a lead until the fourth quarter. The Mocs continued to chip away, holding a steady lead. A jumper from Leyla Minor concluded the scoring in the first frame as both teams went to the bench with Chattanooga holding a 17-8 advantage.
 
The Mocs snagged the first bucket of the second quarter before a layup from Asidanya began a 6-1 Spartan run, cutting the deficit to six at 5:37, 20-14. However, Chattanooga extended its lead to 12 with a 6-0 run, 26-14, at 3:41. Levine chipped in a layup before Asidanya knocked down a three-pointer at 2:27, 26-19. After a two-minute scoring draught, Chattanooga concluded the first half with a triple to hold a 10-point lead in the locker room, 29-19.
 
UNCG found its stride coming out of the break to outscore Chattanooga, 16-6 in the third quarter. The Spartans opened the scoring up with an 8-2 run to make it a four-point game at 3:09, 31-27. Both teams exchanged three points apiece before UNCG tallied four unanswered points to tie things up going to the huddle, 35-35.
 
At 9:22, Levine knocked down a jumper to give UNCG its first lead of the contest, 37-35. However, the Mocs regained their momentum the rest of the game to tally a 17-3 run to secure the contest, 52-40.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will continue SoCon play by hosting ETSU on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. inside Bodford Arena. The contest was originally slated for 2:00 p.m. but was moved up to 11:00 a.m. due to impending weather.
