Levine Leads All Scorers as Women’s Basketball Falls to ETSU, 58–48

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team fell in a 58-48 loss to the ETSU Buccaneers in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday inside Bodford Arena.
 
Jeni Levine led all scorers with 20 points, marking her 17th game this season in double-figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bucs opened the scoring with an 11-0 run to never allow the Spartans to lead in the game. Levine put UNCG on the board with a triple at 5:54, 11-3. ETSU responded with a three-pointer of its own on the other end before UNCG notched a 10-3 run to cut its deficit to four going to the huddle, 17-13.
 
Four-straight points from Kristina Rakotobe tied the contest at 17-17, but ETSU maintained the advantage with an 8-0 run to make it 25-17 at 5:35. Both teams exchanged three points apiece before UNCG tallied seven unanswered points to pull back within one at 1:15, 28-27. ETSU's Daniela Lopez got off the final basket of the first half to grant the Bucs with the three-point lead going to the locker room, 30-27. Of UNCG's 27 points in the first half, 15 were recorded by Levine as she led all scorers at the break.
 
The Bucs turned on the momentum by notching back-to-back triples coming out of the break to take a 36-27 lead at 9:02. A 5-1 Spartan run cut the deficit to five at 6:05, 37-32. However, ETSU responded to outscore UNCG 15-5 for the remainder of the third quarter for the visiting team to hold a 53-27 lead at the break.
 
UNCG found its stride in the early goings of the final stanza by starting out with an 8-2 run to come back within nine, 54-45 at 4:44. Both teams continued to exchange baskets, but ETSU maintained control to walk away with the 58-48 victory.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Levine went 4-for-5 from behind the arc, matching her career-best in three-pointers made.
  • Levine, Rakotobe and Ciara Harris all picked up five boards each.
  • Levine and Tasia Johnson paced the Spartans with three assists apiece.
  • Levine also led UNCG with three steals
  • ETSU led the way in points off turnovers (11-8), rebounds (41-35), second change points (14-4), points in the paint (22-12), blocks (2-0) and assists (13-10).
  • UNCG bested ETSU in bench points (15-7), fast break points (6-2) and steals (5-4).
