Cross Country Hosts the Spartan Classic on Friday Evening

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) cross country team is set to host the 2026 Spartan Classic in Kernersville, North Carolina, on Friday, kicking off Homecoming weekend at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex. 

This year's home meet will see the women run a 5K at 5:30 p.m., followed by the men's 8K at 6:15 p.m. It's the third meet of the season for the Spartans and the first of three during the month of October.

LAST TIME OUT - MEN
UNCG's men placed sixth among a 15-team field in the 6K at the adidas Cross Country Challenge last time out, racing in Cary, North Carolina, back on Sept. 18. Seniors Abdullani and Prochaska led the Spartans among a crowd of 161 total runners, the pair placing 22nd and 24th, respectively. Guerrant booked a spot in the top-50 at 49th, while all of Ruffner, Frickel, Slayton, Marsden, and Douglass clocked top-100 spots. September 18's race also marked the Spartan debuts for Frickel, Marsden, and Douglass, all crossing the finish for the first time as freshmen. 

As a team, UNCG's tally of 175 points trailed Wake Forest (22), hosts NC State (66), Liberty (110), High Point (110) and Davidson (135). 

LAST TIME OUT - WOMEN
The Blue & Gold women placed eighth among a field of 16 teams in Cary, the squad's first 5K meet of the season after opening the year with a 4K in Elon. Meyers was the top finisher once again for the Spartans, taking 25th with a time of 17:32.9. Mansure (66th) and Oates (69th) rounded out the top three placements for UNCG, while Tenley Douglass, Rash and Arnold made it six top-90 finishers for the Spartans. 

UNCG finished with 215 points. The top five team finishes in the women's field were NC State (21), South Carolina (40), Liberty (124) and High Point (149). 

UP NEXT
Both the men and women will run at the Upstate Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 17, hosted by USC Upstate at the Roger Milliken Center in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
