Greulich’s Brace Spurs Women’s Soccer Past Mercer, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's soccer team rolled to a 3-0 Southern Conference (SoCon) victory over Mercer on Sunday afternoon at UNCG Soccer Stadium.

Merle Greulich's brace in the game along with a goal from Madison Bass led the Blue & Gold to its first win over Mercer since 2019. The solid defensive performance for the Spartans secured the Blue & Gold's fourth shutout of the season, keeping Mercer without a goal in just over 382 minutes.

UNCG applied pressure early, recording six shots in the opening half. Greulich opened the scoring in the 20th minute, finishing off a skipped ball from Cornelia Winther to give the Spartans a 1-0 advantage.

Mercer increased its pressure after halftime, but UNCG goalkeeper Blythe Clark made a save on Regan Moore in the 51st minute to keep the Bears off the board.

The Spartans extended their lead in the 54th minute, as Bass slipped the ball through the 18-yard box, finding Greulich for her second goal of the afternoon. Just over three minutes later, Bass' header slipped through the hands of the Bears' goalkeeper, finishing off a cross from Magdalena Krug to cap the scoring.

Mercer totaled 13 shots in the second half, but the UNCG defense held firm. Clark added a save in the closing seconds to secure the shutout.
