Volleyball Dominates The Citadel, 3-0

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) volleyball team dominated The Citadel Bulldogs on Friday night, 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-14) in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action inside Bodford Arena. The Spartans hit .337 as a team and improved to 10-7 overall and 3-3 in the SoCon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Set 1 – UNCG opened with three straight points, including a Siena Smiejek and Izora Gragg block, building 10-4 lead. After The Citadel cut the margin to four, Kendall Lanclos served two aces that pushed the Spartans ahead 16-8. The Bulldogs pulled within 16-11, but UNCG answered with four consecutive points, including two Allie Sweet kills and a pair of blocks. Sweet added another kill for set point and Hailey Clifton closed it with a block, 25-13.

Set 2 – The teams traded points early and The Citadel moved in front, 11-10. Sweet's kill tied it and UNCG took the lead for good with a run that included kills from Sweet and Clifton. Smiejek's ace helped stretch the advantage to 22-15. The Bulldogs scored twice more, but a block by Lanclos and Connore' Siler-Nixon gave UNCG set point and Siler-Nixon's kill finished the set, 25-18.

Set 3 – The Citadel scored the first two points and held a 5-3 lead before UNCG caught up at 5-5. The Spartans then used a five-point stretch to move ahead 10-6. Later, UNCG turned an 18-11 lead into a 23-12 advantage, highlighted by a Sweet ace and kills from Clifton and Siler-Nixon. Lanclos delivered the final two Spartan points, including the match-clinching kill to seal the 25-14 win.

BY THE NUMBERS
  • Sweet recorded her 34th career double-double and 11th of the season after leading the match with 18 kills and pacing the Spartans with 13 digs. Sweet also posted a .457 hitting percentage.
  • Gragg notched her 17th career double-double and fifth of the season, leading the contest with 37 assists and adding 10 digs.
  • Clifton recorded 11 kills, while hitting .474.
  • Smiejek and Clifton led the match with four blocks apiece.
  • Lanclos served a career-high four aces.
