GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman
Sara Kostic picked up her first career singles win on Wednesday as the
UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell to the Richmond Spiders, 6-1, on Wednesday at the Piedmont Indoor Tennis Center.
The Spiders secured the first point of the match after collecting two doubles wins. Abby Lee and Lucy Webber defeated
Sara Kostic and
Ivet Sala-Sánchez, 6-2, on court three before Elizabeth Novak and Lainey O'Neil took the doubles points in a 6-3 win over
Sydney Bly and
Sofia Somoano at doubles No. 2.
Sophia Cedeno and
Lauren Thomson's doubles contest with Sofia Barbulescu and Beatriz Guerra remained unfinished on court one, 4-4.
Richmond would go on to collect the next five singles matches. Webber defeated Bushnell, 6-0, 6-3, on court five, while Lee posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Bly at singles No. 4 to make it 3-0 Spiders. O'Neil clinched the match for the Spiders in a 6-3, 6-4, victory over Sala-Sanchez on court six. Guerra was able to come away with the back-and-forth battle with Thomson at singles No. 3, 6-7, 6-0, 10-6, to give Richmond a 5-0 advantage. Barbulescu tallied the final point for Richmond in another battle with Cedeno on court one, 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6). Kostic was able to put the Spartans on the board with a 0-6, 7-5, 10-6, win over Novak on court two.
