GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team secured its fourth-straight win after handing App State its first loss of the season with a score of 6-3 after nine innings and a walk-off home run. The Spartans also recorded their second shutout of the year in an 11-0 victory over Fairfield on Saturday at the UNCG Softball Stadium to conclude the Spiro Classic.
GAME 1: UNCG 6 – App State 3 (9 inn.)
- The Mountaineers took a 2-0 lead after recording one run apiece in the second and third innings.
- Danielle Dakota sent a sacrifice fly down the left field to bring in Leah Gore from third for a 1-0 lead.
- Makayla McClain was able to score off another sacrifice fly, this time from Gore in the third to make it 2-0 in favor of App State.
- UNCG responded with one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game 2-2.
- Nya South doubled to right center to score Macy Michael from first, cutting the deficit to one.
- In the fifth, Kaylyn Belfield recorded a base hit, bringing Avery Bouquin home to tie things up, 2-2.
- After three scoreless innings, App State was able to put one on in the ninth with a base hit to send the runner home from second for a 3-2 lead in extra innings.
- In UNCG's half, Rylie Williams scored on a sacrifice fly from Jazmin Mejia to make it 3-3.
- Later with Hadley Gardner on third and Belfield on first, Michael launched a home run to left field on a 3-2 count to grant UNCG the 6-3 walk-off victory. This was Michael's second homer of the season.
- Brooklyn Shroyer recorded her third win of the season after throwing five innings and posting six strikeouts.

GAME 2: UNCG 11 – Fairfield 0 (5 inn.)
- The Spartans got the scoring started early, putting four runs on the board in the first.
- Michael recorded her second homer of the day and third of the season, a two-run blast to left field in the bottom of the first.
- UNCG tacked on another tally when Gardner hit a ground ball to the pitcher to bring in South.
- The Spartans' final run of the frame came off Bouquin's RBI singled to left field, bringing Deane home from third.
- In the bottom of the second, Deane blasted a ball deep into center field on a 3-2 count for three RBI and a 7-0 advantage.
- This was Deane's ninth career homer and third of the season.
- Madelyn McKinnon gave UNCG an 8-0 lead in the bottom of the third with a solo home run in her first pitch of the at bat.
- McKinnon's home run was her second of her career and first this season.
- UNCG recorded its final three runs in the fourth inning.
- With bases loaded, Izzy Eskew was able to score from third on a wild pitch to make it 9-0 Spartans.
- In the next bat, Ava Talley hit a ground ball to send Emmy Clark home from third.
- Immediately after, Gardner scored from third on a Farfield fielding error.
- Marin McGowan came in for the final inning securing UNCG with the five-inning victory.
