CHATTANOOGA, TENN. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team was edged by the Chattanooga Mocs, 56-54, on Saturday afternoon inside McKenzie Arena.
Jeni Levine led the Spartans with 15 points, while
Makiah Asidanya chipped in nine points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Spartans struck first in the contest with a three-pointer from Levine at 9:39. Chattanooga's Kalifa Ford squeezed in a jumper before
Jaila Lee responded on the other end with a triple at 8:40 to make it 6-2 Spartans. The Mocs were able to make it a one-point game at 3:50, 10-9, but UNCG closed out the quarter with four-straight points to hold a 14-9 advantage at the break.
The Mocs picked up the momentum coming out the huddle to record a 6-0 run, taking their first lead of the game at 6:30, 15-14. However, the Spartans quickly responded with 10 unanswered points to take a nine-point lead at 3:17, 24-15. Chattanooga was able to close out the frame with four-straight points, but the Spartans maintained an eight-point advantage at the half, 29-21.
Coming out of the locker room, both teams tallied 14 points apiece in the third frame. The Spartans and Mocs exchanged five points each to start as the third quarter would be a point-for-point duel. However, the Spartans held the eight-point lead, 43-35, inside the huddle.
The fourth quarter continued to be a battle until Chattanooga began a 13-2 scoring run at 3:33, taking a 56-51 lead with 13 seconds on the clock. With seven seconds remaining, Asidanya inbounded a pass to Levine for a three-pointer. However, it wouldn't be enough to hold the Mocs from taking the two-point victory, 56-54.

- UNCG went a perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line.
- Rylan Moffitt and Mia Simpson collected four rebounds each.

- UNCG bested in Chattanooga in points off turnovers (13-11), bench points (12-8), blocks (2-1), steals (8-3) and assists (13-10)
- Chattanooga led the way in rebounds (37-27), second chance points (13-3), points in the paint (24-14) and fast break points (12-7).
