Softball Takes Down Queens, 8-4

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team won its 10th-straight victory behind an 8-4 win over in-state non-conference foe Queens on Tuesday at The Stick Williams Dream Fields.

The Spartans are now 11-5 overall and the Royals are 2-5 overall. The 10-game win streak matches last season's unbeaten record dated from Feb. 8-23.
  • Both teams remained scoreless after three innings.
  • The Spartans jumped on the board in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on two hits, one error, two walks and a hit by pitch.
  • Chrissy Rabenold walked to load the bases for the first time in the game and Kaylyn Belfield's single drove in the first run of the game, 1-0.
  • With two outs, Avery Bouquin followed with a two-run single to center field adding to the Spartans' advantage, 3-0.
  • Nya South was then hit by a pitch to load the bases again, before Laney Deane had a similar at bat to score a run for a 4-0 advantage. One more run came through after Salem Ward walked with the bases juiced for a 5-0 margin.
  • The Royals were able to cut the deficit to three, 5-2, following a two-run homer from Lindsay Henson in the bottom of the fourth.
  • Neither team saw a base runner in the fifth inning.
  • UNCG took a 6-2 lead in the top of the sixth on Ward's two-out RBI single that scored Belfield from second.
  • Bouquin tallied her third hit of the game in the top of the seventh with two outs, bringing home Belfield and Samantha Beck for an 8-3 cushion.
  • In their final three outs of the game, Kami Diaz led off the frame with a single, before two batters were fanned by Brooklyn Shroyer. Aloni Hogans then put herself and Diaz in scoring position for Sage Farmer's RBI single and then Hogan scored on a wild pitch for an 8-4 deficit.
  • Shroyer walked the next batter, but secured the victory with her seventh strikeout of the game.
