Box Score ELON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Charleston Southern, 8-4, at Hunt Softball Park on Friday night in non-conference play.
The Spartans are now 11-6 overall and the Buccaneers are 4-14 overall.
- After a quick three up, three down inning defensively, UNCG got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, scoring two runs on one hit and two errors.
- Kaylyn Belfield reached on a fielding error and Avery Bouquin walked to lead off the frame.
- With one out, Laney Deane connected reaching on a single to left center bringing in two runs, 2-0.
- Charleston Southern responded in the top of the third with four runs on five hits to take a 4-2 lead.
- In the bottom of the third, Nya South crushed a ball over the center field wall for her fifth homer of the season, cutting the Spartans' deficit to 4-3.
- The Bucs added three runs in the top of the fourth for a four-run cushion, 7-3.
- One more run came across the plate for Charleston Southern in the top of the fifth on a throwing error with a runner on second, 8-3.
- With one out in the bottom of the sixth, Rylie Williams and Ava Talley both singled to reach base. Emmy Clark drove the ball out to left center for an RBI single, scoring Williams from second, 8-4.
- Neither team put up a run in the seventh, as the Bucs came away with an 8-4 victory.
