Men’s Basketball Concludes Regular Season at Chattanooga and Samford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team will conclude The Southern Conference (SoCon) regular season traveling to Chattanooga and Samford.

The Spartans first venture to Chattanooga, Tennessee, to battle the Chattanooga Mocs on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 7:00 p.m. inside McKenzie Arena. They then head to Birmingham, Alabama, for the regular season finale against Samford on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 6:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. CT inside Pete Hanna Center.

With the final two SoCon games being played this weekend, UNCG is currently in a two-way tie for sixth place with Western Carolina. ETSU is leading the league and won the Regular Season Title with a 13-3 SoCon record, while Mercer and Wofford are tied for second with a 10-6 mark.

This will be the 60th meeting between the Spartans and Mocs, with UNCG having the edge in the series 30-29. The Spartans opened the SoCon slate with a 77-72 victory over the Mocs on Jan. 1, 2026, in Greensboro.

This will be the 40th meeting between the Spartans and Bulldogs with UNCG having the slight edge, 22-17, in the overall series. The Spartans claimed the 89-82 victory on Jan. 3, 2026, in Greensboro.

LAST TIME OUT FOR THE SPARTANS
  • UNCG dropped back-to-back games, first on the road against Western Carolina, 91-77, and then at home against ETSU inside Bodford Arena, 87-75.
  • Justin Neely paced the Spartans with a 26.5 points per game average last week.
  • He scored a game- and career-high 35 points against the Catamounts for his first-collegiate game with 30 or more points.
  • KJ Younger then paced the Spartans as he scored a team-best 20 points against the Bucs.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
  • The Spartans are pacing the SoCon in three point percentage (36.1).
  • Neely leads the conference in four categories, including: double-doubles (17), rebounds (333), defensive rebounds per game (8.93) and rebounds per game (11.5).
  • The graduate student is nationally ranked in: rebounds (1st/333), defensive rebounds per game (1st/8.93), double-doubles (2nd), rebounds per game (3rd/11.5), free throw attempts (5th/230), free throws (5th/180), points (49th/528), field goal percentage (77th/53.7), points per game (83rd/18.2).
  • Neely recorded a career-best 22 rebounds against VMI on Jan. 21. According to UNCG records, the last time a Spartan collected 20 or more rebounds in a single game was James Dickey on March 15, 2020, when he recorded 20 boards against Mercer. Neely's 22 rebounds are the most in a single game in UNCG's Division I era.
  • Neely now joins elite company with 20 or more boards in a single game: Tom Nelson (27), Bruce (25), Kyle Hines (21) and Dickey (20).
  • Neely is the second Spartan this season to score 30 or more points, with Younger scoring 30 at Mercer.
  • Neely (18.2), Younger (14.6) and Whitehead Jr. (10.4) round out the Spartans averaging double-figure points.
  • Neely (2.6) and Whitehead Jr. (2.5) are leading the team in assists per game.  
  • Valentino Pinedo is leading the Spartans with 25 blocks this season.
  • Neely has been voted SoCon Player of the Week twice this season, with the latest being on Feb. 9, following back-to-back double-doubles in SoCon play.
  • The Miami Beach, Florida, native was also named Lou Henson National Player of the Week on Feb. 9.
  • The 2025-26 roster features three returners and 11 newcomers.
  • Six of the 14 student-athletes are international, which is the largest international class under fifth-year Head Coach Mike Jones.
  • The 2024-25 season was the eighth year out of nine with 20 or more wins for the Spartans after going 20-12 overall and 13-5 in the SoCon.
  • Coach Mike Jones achieved his third year out of four winning 20 or more games last season with the Spartans.
SCOUTING THE MOCS
  • Chattanooga was voted to finish first in the 2025-26 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll. It received five first-place votes.
  • Jikari Johnson, Collin Muliholland and Teddy Washington Jr. were voted to the 2025-26 Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • The Mocs are coming off back-to-back wins over Mercer, 94-90, and The Citadel, 93-72, both on the road.
  • Jordan Frison is pacing the team with 15.5 points per game, while Sebastian Hartmann is leading the squad with 5.0 rebounds per game.
  • Frison is averaging 3.9 assists per game, which is sixth in the SoCon.
  • The Mocs are leading the SoCon in bench points per game (28.93) and free throw percentage (76.6).
  • Chattanooga has the edge over its opponents in points per game (76.0-74.3), field goals per game (26.4-24.6), three pointers per game (10.4-8.0) and assists per game (15.2-13.0).
  • The Mocs concluded the 2024-25 season 29-9 overall and 15-3 in the SoCon.
  • They received their fifth bid into the NIT and came out with the 2025 Championship, where the Mocs defeated UC Irvine, 85-84.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
  • Samford was voted to finish third in the 2025-26 SoCon Preseason Coaches' Poll.  
  • Jadin Booth and Dylan Faulkner were voted to the 2025-26 Preseason All-Conference Team.
  • The Bulldogs will host VMI before welcoming the Spartans for the regular season finale.
  • Samford's six-game win streak was snapped by Mercer's 89-86 victory on Saturday in Macon, Georgia.
  • Booth is pacing the team with 20.9 points per game, while Faulkner (17.6) round out the double-figure scorers.
  • Keaton Norris is averaging 4.8 assists per game, which is third in the SoCon.
  • Faulkner is pacing the Bulldogs with 8.4 rebounds per game, which is fourth in the SoCon.
  • Booth is leading the SoCon in free throw percentage (87.2), minutes per game (36:09), points (564), points per game (20.9), three point percentage (42.9), three pointers per game (3.89) and total three-point field goals made (105).
  • Samford has the edge over its opponents in points per game (78.5-75.3), three pointers per game (9.2-7.6), free throws per game (16.9-14.1), assists per game (14.7-12.5) and points off turnovers (10.9-10.1).
  • The Bulldogs concluded the 2024-25 season 22-11 overall and 12-6 in the SoCon.
  • They received their first bid into the NIT and fell to George Mason, 86-69.
FLEMING GYMNASIUM RENAMED BODFORD ARENA
  • On Saturday, Nov. 8, Fleming Gymnasium, home to UNCG volleyball, women's basketball and men's basketball was renamed to Bodford Arena.
  • This historic moment for the department was made possible through a transformational $2 million gift from the Bodford family.
  • This generous support represents the largest unrestricted gift in the history of UNCG Athletics, as well as the first associated with naming a competitive athletic facility.  
  • The University is already familiar with the Bodford name - the Bodford Family Speed, Strength & Conditioning Center was dedicated in October 2020.

UP NEXT
The Spartans will await their fate into the 2026 SoCon Men's Basketball Tournament. The tournament, which is held in Asheville, North Carolina, at Harrah's Cherokee Center, is scheduled to begin March 6 and run through March 9.
