GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team fell to the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU), 4-2, on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Spartans secured the the first point of the day after collecting two doubles matches and forcing an abandonment on the third. John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz continued their win streak in doubles, securing the 7-5 win over Tanner Povey and Jonathan Baron. Lars Frafjord and Tymofiy Khrystyuk defeated Mika Bunjes and Gustav Hasslegren,6-3, to secure the doubles point for UNCG. The third match was left unfinished.
The Spartans continued the momentum early with Gabelic sweeping Pablo Paternostro on court two,6-2, 6-2, for the 2-0 lead. However, the Eagles picked up the next four singles matches which started with Hasslegren defeating William Elmers, 6-4, 6-1, on court five. Hector Nissen was beaten by Bunjes, 4-6, 2-6, on court five to tie up the match at two apiece. Povey bested Khrystyuk, 7-6, 6-4, on court one. Finally, FGCU secured the victory with Stefan Correa's win over Eric Lindemann, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. The final match on court two was not finished.
