GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell to the ETSU Buccaneers, 6-1, in The Southern Conference (SoCon) opener on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Bucs tallied the first point of the day after collecting two of three doubles matches. Alessandra Caceres and Mariangel Estrella defeated
Sofia Somoano and
Sydney Bly on court one, 6-1. Julia Millan and Ksenija Rage granted ETSU with the 1-0 lead after getting the 6-2 win over
Sara Kostic and
Sophia Cedeno at doubles No. 2. Despite the Bucs already securing the doubles point,
Ivet Sala-Sánchez and
Kayley Bushnell were able to claim the final doubles match on court three, 6-4, over Niyati Kukreti and Audelie Lesauvage.
ETSU continued its momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches. First, Rage defeated Cedeno, 6-2, 6-3, on court one before Milan notched a 6-3, 6-2, win over Bly at singles No. 3 to make it 3-0 Bucs. Estrella clinched the match for ETSU, defeating Somoano, 7-5, 6-2, on court six. Lesauvage was able to go on to defeat Sala-Sánchez in a back-and-forth battle on court four, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2.
Kayley Bushnell put the Spartans on board at court five in her first collegiate win, defeating Kukreti, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Caceres collected the final match of the day in a 6-2, 5-7, 7-5, win over Kostic at singles No. 2, granting ETSU with the 6-1 win.
