GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team shut out Converse on Sunday afternoon, 7-0, at the UNCG Tennis Courts, for the first victory on the 2026 season.
Sunday's contest against Converse was considered an exhibition match for the Valkyries as they compete in the NCAA Division II.
The Spartans got on the board first by securing two of the doubles matches. Lais Martins and Khushi Kharb claimed the first doubles match, defeating Syndey Bly and
Sofia Somoano on court one, 6-0.
Kayley Bushnell and
Ivet Sala-Sánchez tied things up in a 6-2 win over Camille Lacombe and Panwar Tamanna at doubles No. 3. On court two,
Sara Kostic and
Sophia Cedeno granted UNCG with the doubles point in a 6-4 win over Romy Rueff and Laurel Maynor.
The Spartans went on to claim all six singles matches for the shutout victory. Sala-Sánchez started out singles play by giving UNCG the 2-0 lead when she shutout Lacombe, 6-0, 6-0, on court four. Kostic made it 3-0 Spartans after defeating Maynor, 6-1, 6-0, at singles No. 2. Somoano clinched the match for the Spartans in a 6-0, 6-4, victory over Rueff at court six. Bushnell tallied the fifth point of the day in a 6-2, 6-0, win over Martins at singles No. 5. Bly added to the Spartans' lead after defeating Panwar, 7-5, 6-1, at court four. Cedeno tallied the final for the Spartans on the day with a 7-6, 6-4, win over Kharb at singles No. 1, securing the 7-0 victory.
