Women’s Tennis Drops 5-2 Battle with Chattanooga

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 battle in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action against the Chattanooga Mocs on Sunday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts.

The match started off with doubles play coming down to the wire. Sofia Somoano and Sydney Bly defeated Addison Iacono and Emma Pedretti, 6-3, at doubles No. 2. Jordan Fenton and Ella Mancuso responded on court three by defeating Kayley Bushnell and Ivet Sala-Sánchez, 7-5, to tie up doubles. The doubles point came down to court one with Savanah Presson and Rufaro Magarira earning the tiebreaking match over Sophia Cedeno and Lauren Thomson, 7-6 (1).

Singles play would start off going back-and-forth. Iacono first earned the 6-2, 7-5, win over Cedeno at singles No. 1 before Presson outlasted Thomson, 7-5, 6-3, on court three to put the Mocs up 3-0. Bushnell put the Spartans on the board after defeating Zara Burns at singles No. 5, 7-5, 6-3. Somoano made it a one-point match when she took down Fenton on court six, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. However, Pedretti clinched the match for the Mocs at singles No. 4 in a 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, win over Sala-Sánchez to make it 4-2 Chattanooga. Magarira secured the final point of the match as she and Sara Kostic played a tiebreaking final match going Chattanooga's way, 2-6, 6-4 (1).

UP NEXT
The Spartans continue at home next weekend, hosting SoCon opponent Furman on Saturday, March 21 and Big South foe Presbyterian on Sunday, March 22, at the UNCG Tennis Courts. Both matches are scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. start.
