GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 matchup with the Furman Paladins in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Saturday at the UNCG Tennis Courts.
Furman was able to take the 1-0 lead after snagging all three doubles matches. Bianca Ceroni and Macy Hitchcock defeated
Sydney Bly and
Sofia Somoano, 6-1, on court two. Lillie Murphy and Elle Warren secured the doubles point for Furman in a 6-3 win over
Sophia Cedeno and
Lauren Thomson on court one. Molly Robinson and Lily Doherty collected the final doubles match against
Kayley Bushnell and
Ivet Sala-Sánchez, 6-3, at doubles No. 3.
The Paladins continued their momentum into singles play by notching all six matches. Murphy gave the visiting team a 2-0 lead after defeating
Sara Kostic, 6-0, 6-1, at singles No. 2. Robinson went on to claim a 6-1, 6-4, victory over Somoano on court six. Hitchcock secured the match for the Paladins in a 6-4, 6-1, win over Thomson on court three. Ceroni gave Furman a 5-0 lead with a 6-2, 6-2, victory against Bushnell on court four. Warren granted the Paladins with a 6-0 advantage after claiming a 6-4, 6-2, win over Cedeno at singles No. 1. At singles No. 5, Doherty secured the first set against Bly, 6-4, but Bly tied things up with a 6-2 second set. Doherty was able to collect the tiebreaker third set to grant Furman with the 7-0 win.
