GREENSBORO, N.C.- The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team bested crosstown rival North Carolina A&T, 7-0, at UNCG Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon. This is the first 7-0 victory for the program since Feb. 22, 2024, against Belmont Abbey.
The Spartans secured the first point of the day after collecting two-of-three doubles matches.
Hector Nissen and
William Elmers got the day started with a 6-1 win over Nikolas Laux and Matheiu Dussaubaut on court two. However,
John Gabelic and
Devon Moskowitz lost to Jindrich Brill and Kaua Santos, 4-6, on court one.
Tymofiy Khrystyuk and
Eric Lindemann secured the doubles point with the win over Illia Olefir and Ben Werle 7-6, on court three.
Singles saw UNCG continue its momentum with Moskowitz downing Werle, 6-0, 6-3, on court three. Khrystyuk buried Brill, 6-3, 6-4, on court one for a 3-0 Spartans advantage. Gabelicsecured the match for UNCG as he defeated Santos, 6-4, 6-3, on court two. The Spartans were unrelenting as Nissen continued the barrage, besting Olefir, 6-3, 6-4, on court four. Court five saw Elmers get down early but battle back against Dussaubaut to win, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2. Finally, freshman
Lars Frafjord gutted out a 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-8) win over Gabriel Linovic to secure the 7-0 win for the Spartans
"It means a lot going forward," said Frafjord after his court six win. "We are all happy about how we showed up on every court today. It gives us a lot of confidence moving forward."
