SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell short to the Wofford Terriers in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Thursday afternoon at Reeves Tennis Center.
Wofford took a 1-0 advantage after securing two of three doubles matches. Grace Agster and Quinn Bernthal defeated
Sophia Cedeno and
Lauren Thomson on court one, 6-4. Ella Suk and Chloe Elliott granted the Terriers with the doubles point after defeating
Sydney Bly and
Sofia Somoano, 6-3, on court two.
Kayley Bushnell and
Ivet Sala-Sánchez snagged the 7-5 win over Katie Godfree and Marie Henriksen at doubles No. 3, but Wofford held the 1-0 lead heading into singles play.
Wofford started off singles play by notching the first two matches to make it 3-0. Godfree defeated Thomson, 6-1, 6-1, on court three before Bernthal notched a 6-2, 6-2, win over
Sara Kostic at singles No. 2. Bly put the Spartans on the board with a 6-0, 6-3, win over Grace Stout on court five to make the match score 3-1. However, Suk was able to clinch the match for the Terriers in a 6-4, 6-4, victory over Sala-Sánchez on court four. Bushnell gave UNCG its final point after securing a 6-4, 6-3, win over Henriksen on court six. Agster made the final score 5-2 as she and Cedeno battled back-and-forth on court one, but Agster notched the final win, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (10-8).
