BUIES CREEK, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team fell, 4-1, to the Campbell Fighting Camels on Thursday afternoon at James Nisbet Tennis Center.
Campbell got on the board early after notching the doubles point. Mollie Garcia and Sandra Mari Marti defeated
Sydney Bly and
Sofia Somoano, 6-0, at doubles No. 2 before Ilouna Aneca and Sonia Pieczynska secured the doubles point in a 6-1 win over
Sophia Cedeno and
Lauren Thomson on court one. The matchup between
Kayley Bushnell &
Ivet Sala-Sánchez and Aubrey Carroll & Hayley Glen at doubles No. 3 remained unfinished at 1-4.
Garcia gave the Camels a 2-0 lead to start singles action with a 6-4, 6-2, win over Thomson on court three. Aneca picked up the third point of the day for Campbell after recording a 6-1, 6-3, victory over Sala-Sánchez at singles No. 4. Bushnell held off the Camels to put the Spartans on the board by defeating Brooke Murphy 6-2, 6-2, on court six. However, Glen was able to secure the match for the Camels in a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2, battle over Bly at singles No. 5, bringing the final score to 4-1. Cedeno and
Sara Kostic's back-and-forth matches remained unfinished with both in control 6-4, 6-5, each.
