GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's tennis team secured a 6-1 victory over the Western Carolina Catamounts in The Southern Conference (SoCon) action on Tuesday afternoon at UNCG Tennis Courts.
The Spartans got on the board first after notching the doubles point.
Sophia Cedeno and
Ivet Sala-Sánchez defeated Zoe Lui and Kelly Coetzee, 6-1, at doubles No. 2 before
Kayley Bushnell and
Sofia Somoano recorded a 6-2 victory over Axelle Van Beurden and Jenelle Roberts on court three to grant UNCG with a 1-0 lead. Mariya Dobreva and Mia Miranda were able to come away with the 6-3 win over
Sydney Bly and
Lauren Thomson on court one, but the Spartans held the 1-0 advantage going into singles play.
Western Carolina forfeited singles No. 5 and singles No. 6 to give the Spartans a 3-0 lead. Bly went on to clinch the match for the Spartans in a 6-1, 6-1, win over Coetzee at singles No. 4. Dobreva put the Catamounts on the board in a 6-3, 7-6, win over Cedeno on court one. However, UNCG was able to secure the final two singles matches.
Sara Kostic took down Van Beurden, 6-4, 7-5, on court two before Thomson notched a 2-6, 6-4, 10-7 battle over Miranda at singles No. 3, giving UNCG the 6-1 victory.
