Women’s Basketball Falls to ETSU in SoCon Quarterfinals, 62-50

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's basketball team, as the No. 7 seed, concluded its 2025-26 season on Thursday, falling to the No. 2 ETSU Buccaneers, 62-50, in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Quarterfinals at Harrah's Cherokee Center in Asheville, North Carolina.
 
Makiah Asidanya led all scorers with 15 points, marking her 19th game this season in double-figures. Jaila Lee recorded a career-best 11 rebounds, while Mia Simpson matched her season-best of 10 boards.

HOW IT HAPPENED
UNCG got out to an early lead, featuring five points from Asidanya, a layup from Rylan Moffitt, a triple from Lee and a jumper from Kristina Rakotobe to make it 12-0 Spartans at 4:23. The Bucs got on the board and then some, responding with a 14-2 run to tie things up at the end of frame, 14-14.
 
ETSU tallied the first basket of the second quarter, taking its first lead of the contest at 8:11, 16-14. A 5-0 run from Asidanya put UNCG back on top, 19-16, at 6:52. However, the Bucs responded with a 13-2 run to claim a 29-21 advantage at 1:41. Both teams exchanged triples before Leyla Minor snagged the steal and fastbreak layup to close out the first half, cutting UNCG's deficit to six, 32-26.
 
ETSU's Carmen Richardson launched a triple at 8:52 to begin the scoring in the third quarter, giving the Bucs a 35-26 lead. The Spartans notched a 4-1 run to make it a six-point game at 4:31, 36-30. The Bucs strung together seven-straight points for a 13-point lead at 2:45, 43-30. ETSU continued to maintain the advantage, holding a 49-38 lead at the end of the third stanza.
 
The fourth quarter stayed mostly even with ETSU holding the slight scoring advantage, 13-12. With the Bucs in control, 53-41 at 6:46, Jeni Levine recorded seven unanswered points to make it a five-point game at 4:40. However, ETSU was able to bounce back with a 9-2 run to come away with the 62-50 victory.

  • Levine chipped in eight points with seven alone coming in the fourth quarter.
  • All eight Spartans that played in the contest scored at least two points.
  • Asidanya paced UNCG with three triples.
  • Levine led the game with five assists.
  • Moffitt, Minor and Simpson all recorded one block apiece.
  • Tasia Johnson led the Spartans with two steals.
  • UNCG led the way in rebounds (43-38), second chance points (7-3), points in the paint (18-12), steals (5-4) and assists (12-10).
  • ETSU bested UNCG in points off turnovers (15-7), bench points (20-10), fast break points (5-2) and blocks (5-3).

The Spartans concluded the 2025-26 season 14-16 overall and with a 4-10 mark in the SoCon. Levine paced the Spartans, averaging 13.9 points per game on the season to be named to the All-SoCon Second Team. In addition, the Spartans collected three SoCon Player of the Week accolades this year, Asidanya (Nov. 11 & March 3) and Lee (Jan. 13). In addition, Lee became the third Spartan ever to receive the Ann Lashley Inspiration Award for her performance on and off the court.
