GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's tennis team dropped its second Southern Conference (SoCon) game of the week to Samford, 5-2, on Saturday afternoon at the UNCG Tennis Courts. William Elmers went 2-0 on the day winning his doubles and his singles match.
The Bulldogs secured the first point of the day after collecting two of the three doubles matches. John Gabelic and Devon Moskowitz were routed on court one by Sandeep Mohandoss and Darcy Nicholls, 1-6, on court one. However, on court two, Hector Nissen and Elmers defeated Sebastian Harrison and Vitorio Sardinha, 7-5, to set up the clinching point on court three. Lars Frafjord and TymofiyKhrystyuk were defeated by Lukas Dvorak and Cooper Errey, 4-6, to secure the doubles point to Samford.
Singles started strong for the Spartans as they tied up the match thanks to Khrystyuk's thrashing of Mohandoss, 6-4, 6-2, on court one. Elmers defeated Dvorak, 6-2, 2-6, 6-2, on court five to give UNCG the lead. However, it was short lived as Samford knotted up the score with Nicholls defeating Gabelic, 6-1, 4-6, 7-6, on court two. Moskowitz was dropped by Harrison, 3-6, 6-3, 5-7, on court three to put the score at 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs. Nissen was unable to stop the momentum as he lost to Santiago Arredondo, 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, on court four to secure the match for Samford. Cooper Errey finished the day by besting Andrew Black, 4-6, 6-4, 6-5, on court six to bring the final score to 5-2.
