Softball Falls in Doubleheader to Toledo & UNCW

WILMINGTON, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) softball team fell to Toledo, 4-2, and host, UNCW, 3-0, on Saturday at Boseman Field in Wilmington, North Carolina.  
 
The Spartans are now 14-11 overall.
 
GAME 1: UNCG 2 – Toledo 4
  • In the top of the third after two scoreless innings, Toledo scored the first run of the game.
  • With two Rockets retired, Eli Enriquez singled to right field and then Audrey Miller followed with a double to left center for a 1-0 advantage.
  • UNCG was able to respond with a run in the bottom of the fourth to tie the game, 1-1.
  • Following three-straight hits with no outs, Macy Michael reached on a fielder's choice and a Spartan was retired at home for the first out.
  • Jazmin Mejia then hit an infield single to drive in Layla Carr from third, 1-1.
  • The Rockets took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fifth behind two hits and one error.
  • UNCG responded in the bottom of the frame, as Avery Bouquin hit an RBI single to left field, driving in Kaylyn Belfield, who doubled with one out, from second base, cutting the deficit to two, 3-2.
  • Toledo pushed across one more run in the top of the sixth on a wild pitch for a 4-2 advantage.
  • Both teams left runners on base in the seventh, but neither were able to score, as Toledo walked away with the 4-2 win.

GAME 2: UNCG 0 – UNCW 3
  • After a scoreless first inning, UNCW tacked on its first run in the second with a ground ball to the shortstop for one RBI.
  • The Seahawks added two more runs in the fourth when Ava Brookshire singled to right field for two RBI to make it 3-0 UNCW.
  • Neither team was able to put together any runs in the final three innings as the Seahawks grabbed the 3-0 win.
  • Brooklyn Shroyer led the Spartans in the circle with five strikeouts.
  • Nya South recorded one hit and one double in the contest.
