ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The No. 7 seeded UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball team fell to No. 6 Furman, 81-75, in The Southern Conference (SoCon) Tournament Semifinals on Sunday night at Harrah's Cherokee Center.
Justin Neely led the Spartans with 27 points,
Lilian Marville added 20 points, while
KJ Younger chipped in 15 points to round out the Spartans in double-figures.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Six points from Neely and a jumper from Marville gave UNCG the early 8-2 lead at 17:37 to never allow Furman to lead in the half. The Spartans led by as much as 11 on two occasions in the first half with the first coming after a 9-0 run to make it 33-22 at 4:13. UNCG also went into the locker room with an 11-point cushion, 38-27, after Younger knocked down the triple at 1:03 for the final basket of the half.
Coming out of the break, the Paladins recorded a 17-5 run to take their first lead of the game at 12:13, 44-43. The scoring toggled back-and-forth for the remainder of the contest. However, at 6:40, Furman pieced together an 8-2 run to take its biggest lead of the night at 5:04, 66-60. UNCG bounced back with a 6-3 run to come back within three, 69-66 at 2:38. Two Paladins and Marville alone exchanged two three-pointers apiece before Furman's Alex Wilkins went 2-for-2 at the free throw line to make it 77-72 Furman with 23 seconds left. Marville came up clutch one more time, knocking down a three-pointer to cut UNCG's deficit to two, 77-75. However, Furman recorded four-straight free throws to come away with the 81-75 win.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Noah Norgaard, Valentino Pinedo and Neely led the Spartans with five rebounds each.
- Norgaard paced UNCG with three assists.
- Pinedo led the contest with two blocks.
- Norgaard, Neely and Younger registered two steals each.
- Marville went 4-for-5 from behind the arc with three of those triples coming in the final 1:10 of the contest.
- Furman led the way in points off turnovers (16-12), rebounds (25-24), bench points (8-2), blocks (3-2) and assists (15-9).
- UNCG bested Furman in points in the paint (30-28), fast break points (4-2) and steals (7-6).
- The contest was tied in second chance points (7-7).

The Spartans concluded the 2025-26 season 15-19 overall and 9-9 in the SoCon. This season, the squad saw Neely be named to the All-SoCon First Team. Neely was also named SoCon Player of the Week twice, as well as, Lou Henson National Player of the Week. In addition, three Spartans conclude the season averaging double-figures in Neely (17.9), Younger (15.1) and
Donald Whitehead Jr. (10.1).
