GREENSBORO, N.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) men's basketball Head Coach
Jerod Haase announced on Friday the hiring
David Noel III as an assistant coach.

David Noel III most recently comes to UNCG after two years with the Greensboro Swarm as an assistant coach.
"As a player, David is a National Champion, team captain and NBA draft pick," stated Coach Haase. "Couple that with nine years of coaching experience and we have a rising star. He is an expert in player development and our players are fortunate to have a chance to work with him."
With the Swarm, Noel III most recently helped guide the team in capturing their first NBA G League Championship in April 2026. During his time, he served as the lead defensive coordinator of the Swarm, where the team was a top five ranked defense in the NBA G League. He was also responsible for the player development of multiple NBA call-ups with the Charlotte Hornets, including Marcus Garrett, Jaylen Sims and P.J. Hall. Over his two years with the Swarm, the team totaled a 44-26 overall record.
Prior to his time with the Swarm, Noel III was an assistant coach and the head defensive coordinator for the Motor City Cruise in Detroit, Michigan from 2022-24. While with the Cruise, the team saw a league-high-tying five NBA call-ups throughout the 2023-24 G League season, including Zavier Simpson, Stanley Umude, Buddy Boeheim, Tosan Evbuomwan and Jontay Porter. The Cruise accumulated a 33-33 record.
From 2019-22, Noel III was with the Capital City Go-Go as an assistant coach and lead defensive coordinator. At the conclusion of the 2021-22 season, Capital City was ranked No. 5 in defense. Also, during that year, the Go-Go clinched the first playoff berth and had the longest home winning streak in franchise history. He also participated in the NBA Assistant Coaches Program. The Go-Go finished 43-31 while Noel III was with them.
Before he became a coach in the G League, Noel III was the head men's varsity basketball coach at Southern Durham School of Energy & Sustainability from 2017-19. He guided the program to the 2017 Eastern Alamance Christmas Tournament Championship and 2018 Big 8 Conference Tournament Championship. Prior to that, he was the athletic director at Triad Basketball Academy in 2019.
Noel III played professionally overseas before his coaching career began between 2009-17, playing with Cholet (France), Orleans Loiret Basket (France), Edymax SPU Nitra (Slovakia), BCM Gravelines (France), Paris-Levallois (France), Chorale Roanne Basket (France) and Barangay Ginebra Kings (Philippines).
Noel III was drafted in 2006 in the second round, 39
th overall by the Milwaukee Bucks, playing with them through 2008.
Noel III graduated from North Carolina in 2006 with a Bachelor of Arts in African American studies. He was named team captain from 2004-06 and was the College Slam Dunk Champion in 2006. Noel III was part of the 2005 NCAA Championship team with UNCG former Head Coach Wes Miller and former North Carolina Head Coach Roy Williams.
