CHARLESTON, S.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team was outpitched by The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe The Citadel, 2–1, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. on Friday night. Jacob Dilley led the way with the stick with two hits for the Spartans.
After a quiet first inning, The Citadel opened the scoring up in the bottom of the second with two runs thanks to two hits and an UNCG error. However, staff ace, Noah Chapman, retired the next 12 consecutive batters as he kept the Bulldogs' offense at bay for the rest of the game.
The Spartan bats got going in the top of the seventh as The Citadel's William Holmes walked the bases loaded after two quick outs. JJ Parsons then stepped into the batters box and worked a 10 pitch walk to get UNCG on the board, 2-1. Chapman continued to deal as he wrapped up the eighth inning with only three hits allowed, two runs earned, one free pass given out and nine strikeouts as the Spartans headed into the ninth still down a run, 2-1. After two outs, UNCG's Parsons and Ethan Brittain coupled together two singles to put runners on first and second. Brantley Truitt then worked a 3-2 count but ultimately was struck out on a controversial inside fastball to end the game 2-1.
