SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) women's golf team's Chanelle Mwang was named to the All-Southern Conference (SoCon) All-Freshman Team and All-Conference Team, as announced by the league on Tuesday.
The Nairobi, Kenya, native put together a stellar 2025-26 season as she recorded the fourth lowest stroke average in the SoCon with a 73.19. Mwangi also recorded a pair of top five finishes this season at the UNCG Collegiate held in Greensboro, North Carolina, from Oct. 20-21 and the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational at Greensboro, Georgia, from Feb. 20-22. This is the first time since 2010 a UNCG true freshman picked up both the All-Freshman Team and All-Conference Team accolades. Courtney Taylor accomplished the feat, while also picking up SoCon Freshman of the Year in 2010.
UNCG's third-place finish matched its best finish at the SoCon Championships last week since the 2013 SoCon Championships, when UNCG also concluded the tournament in third place. This marks the sixth time that the Spartans rounded out the SoCon Championships in third position in program history.
UNCG finished top five in seven out of its 10 events played this season while picking up the home tournament win at the UNCG Collegiate. The Spartans also finished runner-up in the Reynolds Lake Oconee Invitational and the Advance Golf Partners Collegiate at West Palm Beach, Florida, from Feb. 1-3.
