CULLOWHEE, N.C. - The UNC Greensboro (UNCG) baseball team drops game three to The Southern Conference (SoCon) foe Western Carolina, 7–2, at Hennon Field on Saturday afternoon. Jacob Dilley notched two hits in the contest.
Senior pitcher Hunter Shuey got the start for the Spartans in the final game of the regular season where he went six complete innings with eight hits allowed, four runs given up and four strikeouts. The Catamounts struck first with solo home runs in both the first and second innings to take the early 2-0 lead. Western Carolina added to its advantage with two runs in the fifth to extend the lead, 4-0.
The Spartans battled back in the top of the seventh as a walk and back-to-back singles loaded the bases for Jake Mueller, who productively grounded into a double play to cut the deficit, 4-1. Western responded with three runs in the bottom half to push the score to 7-1. In the top of the eighth, Luke Jenkins drove in an RBI to make the score 7-2 heading into the ninth. The Catamounts then retired the Spartans in order to end the game 7-2.
